Transmural Remission Characterized by High Biologic Concentrations Demonstrates Better Prognosis in Crohn's Disease

Kento Takenaka et al.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the association between serum concentrations of biologics and transmural healing in patients with Crohn's disease. The results showed that patients who achieved transmural healing had a lower risk of hospitalization and surgery. Additionally, the concentration levels of drugs were found to be related to transmural healing.

Infliximab Trough Levels Are Associated With Transmural Sonographic Healing in Inflammatory Bowel Disease

Rose Vaughan et al.

Summary: This study found that lower maintenance infliximab levels were associated with sonographic parameters of inflammation in patients with inflammatory bowel disease. Further research is needed to determine if increasing infliximab levels can improve sonographic healing and disease activity in these patients.

Evolving Short- and Long-Term Goals of Management of Inflammatory Bowel Diseases: Getting It Right, Making It Last

Catherine Le Berre et al.

Summary: Short- and long-term treatment targets in inflammatory bowel diseases (IBDs) have shifted from symptom control to endoscopic healing and patient-centered parameters. The impact of early treatment on IBD remains unclear, highlighting the need for prospective disease-modification trials. The SPIRIT consensus has defined the targets for these trials to evaluate the long-term effects of early treatment on quality of life, disability, complications, neoplastic lesions, and mortality.

Combined Endoscopic and Radiologic Healing Is Associated With a Better Prognosis Than Endoscopic Healing Only in Patients With Crohn's Disease Receiving Anti-TNF Therapy

Kyunghwan Oh et al.

Summary: In patients with CD, those achieving deep endoscopic and radiologic healing under anti-TNF therapy have a better prognosis compared to those achieving only endoscopic healing. The possibility of deep healing being used as a new therapeutic target for CD patients should be further investigated.

Dan Turner et al.

Summary: STRIDE-II presents treatment targets for both adult and pediatric IBD, including long-term and short-term goals. These targets cover aspects such as clinical response, endoscopic healing, quality of life, and growth, providing guidance for improving patient outcomes.

Transmural healing as a therapeutic goal in Crohn's disease: a systematic review

Sophie Geyl et al.

Summary: Transmural healing is a key factor in improving disease-related outcomes for patients with Crohn's disease, often evaluated through bowel wall thickness. Multiple studies have shown a significant association between transmural healing and improvements in disease-related outcomes, as well as a correlation with mucosal healing and selected biomarkers.
