Torsional birefringence in metric-affine Chern-Simons gravity: gravitational waves in late-time cosmology

S. Boudet et al.

Summary: In the context of metric-affine Chern-Simons gravity with projective invariance, analytical solutions for torsion and nonmetricity in the homogeneous and isotropic cosmological case are derived. The general properties of the cosmological solutions in the presence of a perfect fluid are discussed, along with the emergence of big bounce points. The study also examines the propagation of gravitational waves and the behavior of scalar modes.

Testing dynamical torsion effects on the charged black hole's shadow, deflection angle and greybody with M87*and Sgr. A* from EHT

Reggie C. Pantig et al.

Summary: In this paper, the Poincare Gauge theory of gravity is used to analyze the effects of torsion on black holes by studying the deflection angles and shadow radius. The study also explores the impact of torsion on the luminosity of the photonsphere and other properties of black holes. The findings suggest that the torsion parameter plays a significant role in these phenomena.

Rotating Kerr-Newman space-times in metric-affine gravity

Sebastian Bahamonde et al.

Summary: We present new rotating vacuum configurations endowed with both dynamical torsion and nonmetricity fields in the framework of Metric-Affine gauge theory of gravity. By considering scalar-flat Weyl-Cartan geometries, we obtain an axisymmetric Kerr-Newman solution in the decoupling limit between the orbital and the spin angular momentum.

Entropy of Reissner-Nordstrom-like black holes

M. Blagojevic et al.

Summary: In Poincare gauge theory, black hole entropy is canonically defined by the variation of a boundary term Gamma(H) located at the horizon. For a new member of the same class, the Reissner-Nordstrom-like black hole with torsion, the variation of Gamma(H) is affected by a gravitational parameter induced by the existence of torsion, ensuring the validity of the first law.

Metric-Affine Gravity as an effective field theory

A. Baldazzi et al.

Summary: We discuss theories of gravity with independent metric and connection from the perspective of effective field theory. The parity-even Lagrangian terms up to dimension four are considered, and the decomposition of the linearized action on a complete basis of spin projectors is provided. Various subclasses of Metric-Affine Gravity (MAG) theories are explored, and the existence of MAGs whose equations of motion do not have propagating degrees of freedom is pointed out. Furthermore, simple MAGs containing only a massless graviton and states of spin/parity 2(-) or 3(-) are constructed.

First Sagittarius A* Event Horizon Telescope Results. VI. Testing the Black Hole Metric

Kazunori Akiyama et al.

Summary: This study presents new constraints on potential deviations from the Kerr metric based on observations of Sagittarius A* (Sgr A*) using the 2017 Event Horizon Telescope. The authors calibrate the relationship between the black hole shadow and the observed size of ring-like images using both Kerr and non-Kerr simulations. They conclude that the observed image size is within similar to 10% of the Kerr predictions and use these bounds to constrain alternative metrics and charges of spacetimes. The study also explores the possibility of Sgr A* being a compact object with a thermal or reflective surface and compares the results to other gravitational tests.

Review of gravitational wave solutions in quadratic metric-affine gauge gravity

Alejandro Jimenez-Cano

Summary: In this paper, we explore the quadratic Metric-Affine Gauge gravity Lagrangian and gather the known exact solutions for this theory. We focus on solutions with different connections from the Levi-Civita one and extend the already known axial torsion solutions. Finally, we briefly discuss colliding waves and Riemannian solutions.

Sebastian Bahamonde et al.

Summary: In this study, we construct Plebanski-Demianski stationary and axisymmetric solutions with two expanding and double principal null directions in the framework of Metric-Affine gauge theory of gravity. We explore the black hole configurations characterized by various physical parameters and reveal the conditions under which the torsion and nonmetricity tensors provide dynamical contributions and their effects on the geometry of space-time.

Vector stability in quadratic metric-affine theories

Alejandro Jimenez-Cano et al.

Summary: This work examines the stability of the torsion and nonmetricity tensors in the general quadratic metric-affine Lagrangian in 4 dimensions. The study focuses on determining the conditions under which the spin-1 modes associated with these vectors can propagate safely along with the graviton. The research findings significantly reduce the parameter space of the quadratic curvature part from 16 to 5 parameters.

Entropy of Kerr-Newman-AdS black holes with torsion

M. Blagojevic et al.

Summary: The canonical approach to black hole entropy in Poincaré gauge theory is extended to include the Maxwell field as a matter source. The new formalism is used to calculate asymptotic charges and entropy of Kerr-Newmann-AdS black holes with torsion. The result suggests that the first law, with a nontrivial contribution of the Maxwell field, takes the same form as in general relativity.

Strong-Field Gravity Tests with the Double Pulsar

Summary: Continued timing observations of the double pulsar PSR J0737-3039A/B have led to significant improvements in measuring relativistic effects, with new effects observed for the first time. The precision tests of gravity theories and validation of general relativity's predictions have been achieved at a level of 1.3 x 10(-4) with 95% confidence, demonstrating the utility of the double pulsar for alternative theories of gravity tests. The implications of the findings for neutron stars, gravitational waves, interstellar medium, and formation models of double pulsar systems have also been discussed.

Thermodynamics of Riemannian Kerr-AdS black holes in Poincare gauge theory

M. Blagojevic et al.

Summary: A Hamiltonian approach is utilized to study Riemannian Kerr-AdS solutions in the general, parity-violating Poincare gauge theory. It is found that asymptotic charges and entropy are solely determined by the parity-even sector of the theory, with the related parity-odd contributions vanishing. The resulting thermodynamic variables are shown to satisfy the first law of black hole thermodynamics.

Constraints on black-hole charges with the 2017 EHT observations of M87*

Prashant Kocherlakota et al.

Summary: Recent measurements by the Event Horizon Telescope have improved our understanding of strong gravity near supermassive compact objects. By using the shadow size of M87*, constraints on the physical charges of various types of nonrotating or rotating black holes can be inferred, helping rule out certain types of highly charged black holes. Additionally, considering black holes with two physical and independent charges allows for the exclusion of significant regions in the parameter space for specific types of black holes.
