Cosmological simulations of two-component wave dark matter

Hsinhao Huang et al.

Summary: In this study, the wave (fuzzy) dark matter (psi DM) is extended to two components and their soliton-halo structure is investigated through cosmological simulations. The results show that when the proportion of the two components is 75% and 25%, both the major and minor component solitons coexist and have similar masses. However, when the proportion is 25% and 75%, a minor-component soliton cannot form. This work demonstrates the advantages of the multi-component psi DM model over the single-component model.

Multifield ultralight dark matter

Mateja Gosenca et al.

Summary: Ultralight dark matter (ULDM) is usually assumed to be a single scalar field, but we explore the possibility that it consists of N light scalar fields with only gravitational interactions, which is more consistent with the underlying particle physics motivations for these scenarios. In multifield simulations, we find that the amplitude of the total density fluctuations inside a ULDM halo decreases as 1/sqrt(N) and the fields do not significantly correlate over cosmological timescales. Smoother halos heat stellar orbits less efficiently, weakening the observational constraints on the field mass.

Improved mixed dark matter halo model for ultralight axions

Sophie M. L. Vogt et al.

Summary: We propose a complete halo model for mixed dark matter consisting of cold dark matter (CDM) and ultralight axionlike particles (ULAs). Our model considers ULAs as a biased tracer of CDM, similar to the treatment of massive neutrinos and neutral hydrogen. The model takes into account the clustering of ULAs around CDM host halos and captures the cross correlations between both components. This model can be used to predict the matter power spectrum for subpopulations of ULAs across a wide mass range and can be further improved through calibration with future simulations.

What is the halo mass function in a fuzzy dark matter cosmology?

Mihir Kulkarni et al.

Summary: Fuzzy dark matter, composed of ultra-light axions, is an alternative theory designed to address the small-scale problems faced by the standard cold dark matter proposal. It alleviates some of the apparent discrepancies faced by the standard ACDM paradigm.

Cosmological constraints on the multiscalar field dark matter model

L. O. Tellez-Tovar et al.

Summary: The paper provides cosmological constraints on the multiscalar field dark matter model and presents the results for different combinations of potentials. Through analyzing multiple data sources, constraints on the sampling parameters for both single-field and double-field cases are obtained.

Accurate effective fluid approximation for ultralight axions

Samuel Passaglia et al.

Summary: This article introduces a new method for efficiently and accurately evolving ultralight axions, addressing the challenge of tracking the oscillations of axions on cosmological timescales. The method achieves subpercent accuracy for the linear theory suppression of axion density fluctuations relative to cold dark matter without the need to track complete oscillations.

Two-scalar Bose-Einstein condensates: from stars to galaxies

Huai-Ke Guo et al.

Summary: The study focuses on the properties of Bose-Einstein Condensate (BEC) systems consisting of two scalars at stellar and galactic scales. It shows that a repulsive interaction between two scalars at stellar scales can stabilize the BEC system, leading to potential gravitational wave signals. At galactic scales, two-scalar BECs can address scaling problems.

Strong Bound on Canonical Ultralight Axion Dark Matter from the Lyman-Alpha Forest

Keir K. Rogers et al.

Summary: By using the Lyman-alpha forest to search for suppressed cosmic structure growth, we present a new lower limit on the ultralight axion (ULA) dark matter mass m(a): m(a) > 2 x 10(-20) eV. This study strongly disfavors the canonical ULA with mass within the range of 10(-22) eV to 10(-21) eV.

Evolution of perturbation and power spectrum in a two-component ultralight axionic universe

Yi-Hsiung Hsu et al.

Summary: The study investigates the evolution of cosmic perturbations in a two-component ultralight axionic universe, presenting the first spectral computation of perturbations in multicomponent universes. A particular case consisting of light extreme axions and free massive particles may lead to the formation of very high-redshift massive galaxies, potentially hosting massive early quasars. The computation retains information of perturbed velocities for individual axion components, offering a new avenue for setting up initial conditions for future axion dark matter simulations.
