A selective view of climatological data and likelihood estimation

Federico Blasi et al.

Summary: This article provides a narrative overview of climatological data and their typical features, focusing on aspects relevant to statistical modeling. It discusses three common approximation schemes for dealing with large datasets and emphasizes the flexibility of the sinh-arcsinh distribution. The effects of different approximation schemes are illustrated through a simulation study.

On MCMC sampling in self-exciting integer-valued threshold time series models

Kai Yang et al.

Summary: This study develops a new MCMC algorithm for Bayesian inference in threshold integer-valued time series models. By introducing latent variables series, a complete data likelihood is obtained and the full conditional distributions can be easily obtained. The threshold parameter is accurately estimated by maximizing the complete data likelihood. The performance of the algorithm is evaluated through simulations and a real data example.

R?nyi entropy and divergence for VARFIMA processes based on characteristic and impulse response functions

Javier E. Contreras-Reyes

Summary: This paper extends Renyi entropy from VARMA to VARFIMA processes by adding a fractional differencing parameter to address the long-memory behavior of time series. The influence of fractional differencing parameters on Renyi entropy increment was analyzed, and comparisons between VARFIMA processes were made using Kullback-Leibler and Renyi divergences.

Non-Gaussian geostatistical modeling using (skew) t processes

Moreno Bevilacqua et al.

Summary: A new model was proposed for regression and dependence analysis of spatial data. By constructing stationary processes and using weighted pairwise likelihood, the properties and predictive performance of the t process were investigated, and the effectiveness of the methodology was validated through analyzing a real georeferenced dataset.

Random coefficients integer-valued threshold autoregressive processes driven by logistic regression

Kai Yang et al.

Summary: The article introduces a new random coefficients self-exciting threshold integer-valued autoregressive process with autoregressive coefficients driven by a logistic regression structure, discusses basic probabilistic and statistical properties of the model, and examines conditional least squares and conditional maximum likelihood estimators as well as the asymptotic properties of the estimators. The nonlinearity test of the model and existence test of explanatory variables are also discussed. Illustrating through a simulation study, the proposed model fits well with data sets on sexual offences in Ballina, New South Wales, Australia, with two covariates of temperature and drug offences.

A parametric regression framework for the skew sinh-arcsinh t distribution

Artur J. Lemonte

Summary: The study presents a novel parametric regression model based on an interesting and tractable parametric family of distributions, suitable for asymmetric and heavy-tailed data. Maximum likelihood estimation method is used to estimate unknown parameters, and Monte Carlo experiments confirm its effectiveness. Diagnostic measures and comparisons with existing regression models are also discussed.

Fisher Information and Uncertainty Principle for Skew-Gaussian Random Variables

Javier E. Contreras-Reyes

Summary: This study explores the impact of skew-gaussian distribution on the uncertainty principle, leading to the derivation of Fisher information, Shannon entropy power, and Fisher divergence. The flexibility of skew-gaussian distribution allows for explicit expressions of these measures and defines a new Fisher-Shannon information plane. The proposed methodology is demonstrated through numerical results and applications to condition factor time series.
