Superlative photoelectrochemical properties of 3D MgCr-LDH nanoparticles influencing towards photoinduced water splitting reactions

Susanginee Nayak et al.

Summary: In this work, a single system three-dimensional open porous structure of MgCr-LDH nanoparticles was successfully synthesized in a substrate-free path using a one-step formamide assisted hydrothermal reaction followed by visible light irradiation, showing significant photoelectrochemical properties for photocatalytic H-2 and O-2 production. The unique synthetic approach produced a 3D open porous network structure of MgCr-LDH nanoparticles with excellent PEC properties, including high current density, small Tafel slope, and photostability. The self-stacked 2D nanosheets in the 3D MgCr-LDH possess more surface active defect sites for effective light absorption and electron channelization, resulting in superior photocatalytic water splitting performances.

Hydroxyl radicals and sulfate radicals synergistically boosting the photocatalytic and mineralization ability of 1D-2D Bi5O7I/NiFe-LDH heterojunction

Xu Han et al.

Summary: The 1D-2D Bi5O7I/NiFe layered double hydroxide (NiFe-LDH) heterojunction, fabricated by combined hydrolysis and precipitation method, exhibits enhanced photocatalytic activity for dye degradation under simulated sunlight. The generation of superoxide radicals and hydroxyl radicals contributes to the promoted photocatalytic activity of the Bi5O7I/NiFe-LDH heterojunction. Introducing peroxymonosulfate (PMS) further enhances the degradation efficiency and mineralization ratio by producing sulfate radicals and increasing yield of hydroxyl radicals.

MgCr-LDH Nanoplatelets as Effective Oxidation Catalysts for Visible Light-Triggered Rhodamine B Degradation

Susanginee Nayak et al.

Summary: In this work, MgCr-(NO3-) LDH nanosheets with high purity were successfully exfoliated using a formamide method and post-hydrothermal treatment, showing red-shifted absorption bands and effective charge separation efficiency. The nanosheets exhibited superior Rhodamine B degradation efficiency and enhanced light harvestation ability, attributed to the formation of surface-active sites and the presence of active free atoms at the edges promoting easy charge separation and catalytic efficiency. Radical quenching tests revealed that h(+) and center dot OH are the major active species responsible for RhB degradation.
