Early marginal bone loss around dental implants to define success in implant dentistry: A retrospective study

Pablo Galindo-Moreno et al.

Summary: This study aimed to establish an objective criterion for predicting the prognosis of dental implants. By analyzing the marginal bone level, it was found that implants that lose more than 0.5mm of marginal bone within 6 months after placement may not be successful radiographically. A prosthetic abutment height >= 2mm was identified as the most important factor in maintaining peri-implant bone.

Influence of apico-coronal positioning of tissue-level implants on marginal bone stability during supracrestal tissue height establishment: A multi-center prospective study

Sergio Spinato et al.

Summary: The establishment of supracrestal tissue height is crucial for peri-implant marginal bone modifications. This study demonstrates that adaptation of apico-coronal implant positioning in relation to mucosal thickness can compensate for marginal bone resorption occurring around tissue-level implants, preventing unwanted exposure of treated implant surface.

Summary: The study aimed to reduce variability in radiomics features caused by different CT imaging protocols using a GAN method, validating on data from various scanners and building a classifier to distinguish short-term from long-term cancer survivors. Results showed significant improvement in feature alignment and classifier performance after normalization across domains.

Summary: This study compared feature engineering and deep learning methods to identify high-dimensional image features for predicting COVID-19 pneumonia. By extracting deep learning and radiomics features, models were developed and validated for COVID-19 diagnosis, showing improved diagnostic performance when combining deep learning and radiomics models.

Summary: This study evaluated bone quality in the maxilla and mandible using Lekholm and Zarb classification and histomorphometry, finding differences in bone quality between alveolar regions. Greater bone density was observed in older men, with a negative correlation between bone quality and age in males.

Summary: This study aimed to predict the invasiveness of pulmonary adenocarcinoma spectrum with subsolid nodules less than 3 cm using CT-based radiomic approach and found GLCM_Entropy_log10 as a predictor. The diagnostic model showed good performance in both training and validation cohorts, helping differentiate invasive lesions from pre-invasive lesions.

Early peri-implant bone loss as a predictor for peri-implantitis: A 10-year prospective cohort study

Simon Windael et al.

Summary: The study suggests that early bone loss is a predictor for long-term peri-implant pathology, especially when the early bone loss exceeds the thresholds of 0.5 and 1 mm, leading to a significant increase in the risk of peri-implantitis.

Summary: This study introduces a meta-validation method to assess the robustness of medical machine learning models through external validation procedures, considering dataset cardinality and data similarity. The results showed that the validation datasets had adequate cardinality and similarity, leading to good performance of the validated model, indicating the reliability of the results.
