Hierarchical Ti 3C 2T x @MoS2 heterostructures: A first principles calculation and application in corrosion/wear protection

Meng Cai et al.

Summary: Surface and interface engineering are crucial for controlling material properties. This study proposes a strategy to overcome the agglomeration of Ti3C2Tx MXene nanosheets by forming heterostructures with MoS2. First-principles calculations reveal that van der Waals forces dominate the interactions between Ti3C2Tx and MoS2, resulting in stable Ti3C2Tx @MoS2 heterostructures. The synthesized Ti3C2Tx @MoS2 heterostructure composites exhibit a 2D hierarchical structure and demonstrate excellent corrosion protection and antiwear performances in epoxy composite coatings. This work expands the application of MXene-based heterostructure composites.
