Lignin-Derived antioxidants as value-added products obtained under cavitation treatments of the wheat straw processing for sugar production

Liga Lauberte et al.

Summary: This study focused on the utilization of wheat straw for sugar production by pretreating it with low-frequency ultrasound (US) and hydrodynamic cavitation (HC) to obtain flavones-bound lignin. The procedures significantly decreased lignin content in the solid fraction while increasing ordered cellulose content. Through high-resolution mass spectrometry, low molecular weight lignin derivatives that could potentially be used as antioxidants were identified in the liquid phase after the treatment.

Thermal pre-treatment options to enhance anaerobic digestibility - A review

Marvin Scherzinger et al.

Summary: This paper aims to summarize existing studies on various thermal pre-treatment techniques for making more biogenic waste materials usable in anaerobic digestion plants. It compares hydrothermal, vapo-thermal, microwave, and steam explosion pre-treatment methods in terms of digestibility and energy efficiency. The paper fills a gap in the current knowledge by providing a comparison based on the latest measurement results, focusing on lignocellulosic biomass, sewage sludge, and food wastes.
