A multi-agent decision-making framework for evaluating water and environmental resources management scenarios under climate change

Kasra Motlaghzadeh et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a hierarchical multi-agent decision-making framework for managing water and environmental resources under uncertain conditions. The framework incorporates the hierarchical structure of the agents and the distribution and accuracy of information using three Game Theory concepts. It is applied to the Zarrinehroud River Basin to address the decreasing size of the largest hypersaline lake in the Middle East. The proposed methodology provides equilibriums in decision-making process and evaluates the effects of different climate change scenarios.

An uncertainty-based framework for evaluating and improving the long-term resilience of lakes under anthropogenic droughts

Parastoo Pourmoghim et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a new framework to evaluate the resilience of lakes under climatic and anthropogenic droughts, with a hierarchical structure of criteria for assessing lake's resilience. The proposed criteria include robustness, resourcefulness, redundancy, and rapidity, and a simulation model and Evidential Reasoning approach are used to quantify the sub-criteria and values. By applying the methodology to the case study of Lake Urmia and Zarrinehrud river basin, the most effective restoration scenario has been selected based on performance, cost, and uncertainty band.

Evaluating and improving the sustainability of ecosystem services in river basins under climate change

Saeed Ashrafi et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a new framework for evaluating the sustainability of basin-wide ecosystem services, using the Zarrinehrud river basin as a case study to assess the impact of climate change and water resources management scenarios on ecosystem services. The study finds that among all scenarios considered, WRM scenario 128 is the best option for improving ecosystem services in the study area.

A stakeholder-based framework for improving the resilience of groundwater resources in arid regions

Pouya Moghaddasi et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a stakeholder-based framework for groundwater resources management in arid regions, including stakeholder analysis, system dynamics modeling, and resilience analysis. The groundwater management scenarios are ranked using the Electoral College Voting method. The results show that implementing modern irrigation systems and water transfer is the socially optimal scenario in the Rafsanjan plain in Iran, reducing water consumption and improving groundwater resilience.

Managing basin-wide ecosystem services using the bankruptcy theory

Saeed Ashra et al.

Summary: This paper develops a bankruptcy-based methodology to manage ecosystem services and applies it to the Zarrinehrud river basin in Iran to find that the basin is bankrupt. Six bankruptcy methods are developed and two Root Mean Square Error-based approaches are used to determine the most applicable management scenario.

Evaluating water resources management scenarios considering the hierarchical structure of decision-makers and ecosystem services-based criteria

Massoud Behboudian et al.

Summary: This paper presents a new methodology for evaluating water resources management scenarios, considering various aspects of hydrological ecosystem services. The temporal variations in supplied water and agricultural drought management policies are assessed, along with ecological conditions as a criterion. A game theory-based hierarchical evidential reasoning technique is used for prioritizing and selecting the best water resources management scenario.

Massoud Behboudian et al.

Summary: A new methodology is proposed for the optimal redesign of rain-gauge networks using satellite data and Bayesian information fusion technique. By combining satellite data with ground-based data, the standard deviation of estimation errors is significantly reduced, demonstrating the effectiveness of the approach.

Massoud Behboudian et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a new methodology for quantifying the total resilience of water resources management scenarios, examining the impact of climate change on water supply and demand. Various criteria are defined to measure different aspects of water resources system resilience, and an evidential reasoning-based approach is used to compare management scenarios, demonstrating the feasibility of the proposed methodology in the case study of the Zarrinehrud river basin in Iran.

Evaluating the long-term resilience of water resources systems: Application of a generalized grade-based combination approach

Massoud Behboudian et al.

Summary: This paper presents a new methodology to evaluate the resilience of water resource systems under extreme events, including three main steps: calculating performance criteria, proposing a new resilience-based criterion, and defining adaptive management scenarios. The methodology has been applied to the Zarrinehrud river basin, showing that traditional criteria may not accurately assess system resilience under extreme events, while new criteria can improve long-term resilience.
