Ozonation/adsorption hybrid treatment system for improved removal of natural organic matter and organic micropollutants from water - A mini review and future perspectives

Paripurnanda Loganathan et al.

Summary: Elevated concentrations of natural organic matter (NOM) and organic micropollutants (OMPs) can contaminate drinking water. Current water treatment technologies are not always successful in removing all their constituents. Ozonation and adsorption are two advanced processes used to treat NOM and OMPs, but their efficiency is limited due to the diverse characteristics of the components. Integration of these processes has shown progress but further improvement is needed.

Sorption and desorption kinetics of PFOS to pristine microplastic

Bettie Cormier et al.

Summary: This study investigated the sorption processes of PFOS on PE microplastic particles and the desorption of PFOS from PE MPs under simulated digestive conditions. The results showed that smaller particles had higher PFOS concentrations sorbed onto PE and were also more easily desorbed. Prolonged exposure of PE MPs to PFOS led to higher concentrations adsorbed by PE MPs, increasing the risk of transferring relevant concentrations of PFOS during digestion.
