NEXTGEN: A serious game showcasing circular economy in the urban water cycle

Summary: Understanding the circular economy for water is challenging due to the complexity of the urban water cycle and its interrelations with other factors. To address this challenge, the NextGen Serious Game was developed as an online educational tool to explore the implications of circular economy strategies in different virtual catchments. The game has been successfully used in classrooms, debate facilitation, and even as a competitive tournament for water professionals, contributing to public understanding of water issues.

An Integrated Assessment Framework for Transition to Water Circularity

It consists of four stages: understanding the water context, assessing the circularity level of selected technologies, evaluating the legitimacy of alternative circular technologies, and identifying legitimation actions to support their scale-up.

These different perspectives complement each other, highlighting the importance of a mixed set of instruments and key actors for a successful transition to CE.
