Exploring thermal comfort of urban buildings based on local climate zones

Jiayi Ren et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the regional characteristics of land surface temperatures (LSTs) and thermal comfort in Zhengzhou, China. The findings show that built-up areas have significantly higher LSTs compared to natural surfaces, and areas with sparsely distributed buildings exhibit better thermal comfort. The correlations between LST and different vegetation types vary among local climate zones (LCZs).

Land use and land cover changes influence the land surface temperature and vegetation in Penang Island, Peninsular Malaysia

Gbenga F. Akomolafe et al.

Summary: This study assessed the changes in land use and land cover (LULC) on Penang Island from 2010 to 2021, revealing significant increases in urbanized areas, slight increases in forests, and substantial reductions in agricultural/herbaceous areas. The urbanized areas exhibited the highest land surface temperatures, which may be attributed to decreased greenness and vegetation cover. Strong positive correlations between temperature and vegetation index were observed in urbanized areas and bare lands.

Delineation of groundwater potential zones using geospatial and MCDM approaches in urban areas of Anantapur District, AP, India

B. N. Anusha et al.

Summary: Delineating groundwater potential zones is crucial for the long-term management of groundwater resources. The study demonstrates the use of GIS and MCDM techniques, specifically the Analytical Hierarchy Process, to accurately delineate the nonlinear behavior of groundwater occurrence. The weighted overlay analysis, based on remote sensing technology, is extensively used for groundwater potential zoning. The results indicate that a significant portion of the study area has poor groundwater potential, suggesting limited and deteriorating groundwater resources.

Influence of Vegetation on Outdoor Thermal Comfort in a High-Altitude Tropical Megacity: Climate Change and Variability Scenarios

Angelica Maria Bustamante-Zapata et al.

Summary: The study investigates the impact of vegetation on the outdoor thermal comfort of a high-altitude tropical megacity. The results show that urban areas with vegetation have a greater hourly variation range of thermal comfort compared to impermeable areas. Vegetated areas experience lower thermal stress due to cold. The study provides valuable insights for decision-makers to improve outdoor thermal comfort in megacities, especially in the context of climate change.

Quantitative analysis of spatial distribution of land surface temperature (LST) in relation Ecohydrological, terrain and socio- economic factors based on Landsat data in mountainous area

Farideh Taripanah et al.

Summary: Land surface temperature (LST) is a crucial factor affecting regional climate and ecology, with various influences such as topography, vegetation, and solar radiation. This study investigated the temporal and spatial variation of LST in different years in northwest Iran, showcasing the significant impact of temperature, vegetation, and elevation on LST. The results provide valuable insights for prospective studies on ecosystem responses to climate changes.

Variations in urban land surface temperature intensity over four cities in different ecological zones

Ayansina Ayanlade et al.

Summary: This study focuses on assessing variations and changes in urban land surface temperature intensity over four major cities in different ecological zones. The research reveals that different land cover types and ecological locations contribute to the intensity of urban land surface temperature, with more intensified changes observed in core urban areas.
