Selective dissociation of the spectator Auger final states in O2 molecules

Lifang Tian et al.

Summary: Through advanced analysis of experimental data, weak channels in the dissociation process of molecular ionic states in O-2 after O1s core excitation were revealed, showing a tendency for fragments to contain only outmost electrons in valence orbitals and preferentially occur at smaller principal quantum number n. This suggests conservation of electron orbital size and potential orbital selection in the dissociation process.

Resonant inelastic x-ray scattering at the N2 π* resonance: Lifetime-vibrational interference, radiative electron rearrangement, and wave-function imaging

L. Kjellsson et al.

Summary: Resonant inelastic x-ray scattering spectra excited at the pi*-resonance of the nitrogen molecule are presented, showing well-resolved vibrational excitations in the electronic ground state and certain excited states. Analysis within the Kramers-Heisenberg formalism emphasizes the importance of lifetime-vibrational interference effects. The study also reveals strongly dissociative multiply excited final states in radiative electron rearrangement.
