The Significance of Skip Mediastinal Lymph Node Metastasis in the Prognosis of Patients with Resected Non-Small-Cell Lung Carcinoma: Is It Really a Better N2 Disease Subtype?

Yunus Seyrek et al.

Summary: This study aimed to reveal the prognostic differences between skip and non-skip metastasis mediastinal lymph nodes in lung cancer patients. The findings suggest that skip metastasis is not adequately considered in TNM classification, and future research should focus on methods to detect micrometastasis and accurately identify true skip metastasis cases. Further studies are needed to fully understand the prognostic importance of skip metastasis in N2 disease.

Surgical challenges in multimodal treatment of N2-stage IIIA non-small cell lung cancer

Masafumi Yamaguchi et al.

Summary: Locally advanced non-small cell lung cancer, especially stage IIIA-N2 with mediastinal lymph node metastasis, is a complex disease requiring a combination of chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and potentially surgery. The standard treatment is concurrent chemoradiotherapy, with adjuvant chemotherapy considered for certain patients. Personalized treatment based on oncogene mutations and immune status is becoming increasingly important in this field.
