Synthesis and characterization Agar/GO/ZnO NPs nanocomposite for removal of methylene blue and methyl orange as azo dyes from food industrial effluents

Omid Moradi et al.

Summary: In this study, a nanocomposite consisting of graphene oxide (GO), agar, and ZnO nanoparticles was successfully synthesized for the removal of dye contaminants from food industry effluents. The nanocomposite showed effective adsorption of methylene blue (MB) and methyl orange (MO) due to their different functional groups. The Freundlich and Langmuir models were used to analyze the isotherm of contaminants removal and the results indicated high removal percentages for both dyes.

Zinc binding strength of proteins dominants zinc uptake in Caco-2 cells

Tian Li et al.

Summary: Zinc plays a crucial role in various aspects of human body functioning, and its deficiency can lead to dysfunction of organs and immunity systems. This study investigated the effects of different components in whey protein on zinc uptake and binding. The results showed that beta-lactoglobulin promoted zinc uptake, alpha-lactalbumin had minor effects, while bovine serum albumin reduced zinc uptake. The binding affinity between proteins and zinc ions varied among the three proteins. The study suggests that protein binding may eliminate toxic effects of free zinc and the binding strength determines zinc uptake.

A new approach for affinity-based purification of horseradish peroxidase

Zuleyha Almaz et al.

Summary: An efficient procedure for isolating horseradish peroxidase (HRP) using aminobenzohydrazide-based affinity chromatography was developed. A total of 26 aminobenzohydrazide derivatives were synthesized and characterized as new HRP inhibitors, with detailed inhibition effects on HRP enzyme investigated. The affinity matrix formed by bonding aminobenzohydrazides showed inhibitory activity towards sepharose-4B-l-tyrosine, enabling successful isolation and purification of HRP with high recovery rates using specific derivatives.
