Structural aspects of SARS-CoV-2 mutations: Implications to plausible infectivity with ACE-2 using computational modeling approach

Priyanka Gopi et al.

Summary: This study investigates the binding of SARS-CoV-2 mutants with ACE-2 and antibodies through computational modeling and comparative analysis. The results show that Delta plus and omicron variants bind more strongly to ACE-2 than other variants due to mutations and changes in the binding site. Molecular dynamics simulations and calculations provide insights into key residues involved in the interaction.

The Role of Thyme (Zataria multiflora Boiss) Essential Oil as Natural Antioxidant on the Lipid Oxidation in Mayonnaise

Asiye Ahmadi-Dastgerdi et al.

Summary: This research confirms the antioxidant properties of thyme essential oil for improving the oxidative stability of mayonnaise. The essential oil showed strong antioxidant activity and significantly reduced oxidation in the mayonnaise. Therefore, it can be used as a natural antioxidant and flavoring compound in food industry, particularly for lipid-containing foods like mayonnaise.

Structural aspects of formetanate hydrochloride binding with human serum albumin using spectroscopic and molecular modeling techniques

Shweta Singh et al.

Summary: This study investigated the binding characteristics of Formetanate Hydrochloride (FMT) with Human serum albumin (HSA) using experimental and computational methods. The results showed that the binding of FMT to HSA is spontaneous and entropy driven. FMT binds to specific domains and subdomains of HSA and is stabilized by hydrophobic interactions. Additionally, molecular dynamics simulations revealed minor adjustments in FMT's conformation within the binding site, and computational results were consistent with experimental findings.

Evidence for Dual Site Binding of Nile Blue A toward DNA: Spectroscopic, Thermodynamic, and Molecular Modeling Studies

Mukti Mohammad et al.

Summary: The study found that Nile Blue binds to the DNA helix by two types of modes simultaneously, with binding driven by negative enthalpy and positive entropy changes. At low concentrations, Nile Blue binds to a DNA minor groove, while it switches to intercalation mode at higher concentrations. The thermodynamic study showed that the overall binding free energy is a combination of several negative and positive free energy changes.

Somayeh Sepahvand et al.

Summary: The study focused on the antimicrobial efficiency of thymol and thymol-nanoemulsion (NE) against S. aureus, E. coli, and C. perfringens on sausage products over a 4-week period. The results showed that NE was more effective in inhibiting the growth of the tested bacteria compared to thymol alone. Additionally, the combination of NE with nitrite or thymol with nitrite significantly reduced bacterial growth and maintained color quality in sausage products, demonstrating the potential of NE and thymol as antimicrobial agents.
