Tuning the adsorption and diffusion capabilities of titanium disulfide monolayers by doping and strain engineering: Implications for lithium-ion batteries

A. K. Nair et al.

Summary: This study investigates the adsorption and diffusion properties of lithium atoms on 2D titanium disulfide, as well as the effects of strain and doping with various heteroatoms, on the performance of the material. The results show that both strain and doping can enhance the lithium ion adsorption energy and improve the open circuit voltage. This research suggests that 2D titanium disulfide has potential as a battery anode and electrocatalytic material, with the properties further enhanced by doping and strain engineering.

Point defects-induced adsorption and diffusion of lithium on monolayer titanium disulfide: A first-principles study

Ruixue Tian et al.

Summary: First-principles calculations based on density functional theory were used to systematically investigate the impacts of point defects, including vacancies and antisites, on the Li adsorption and diffusion in monolayer titanium disulfide (TiS2). The results show that defect types strongly influence Li adsorption and diffusion capabilities, with certain defects enhancing adsorption and diffusion rates significantly. This study provides insights for designing high-performance electrode materials for rechargeable batteries.

Boosting reversible lithium storage in two-dimensional C3N4 by achieving suitable adsorption energy via Si doping

David Adekoya et al.

Summary: Graphitic carbon nitride (C3N4) has large pores that can store alkali-metal atoms, but the high adsorption energy of Li atoms at the pore sites results in low efficiency. Doping Si atoms into C3N4 significantly reduces the adsorption energy of Li, leading to improved lithium storage capacity.

A DFT study of bismuthene as anode material for alkali-metal (Li/Na/K)-ion batteries

Muhammad Isa Khan et al.

Summary: The buckled Bismuthene (b-Bi) shows good stability and theoretical capacity in lithium-, sodium- and potassium-ion batteries, surpassing commercially available graphite anodes. Its diffusion barrier values are relatively lower, making it a favorable candidate as an anode material for rechargeable batteries.

Adsorption and diffusion of alkali metals (Li, Na, and K) on heteroatom-doped monolayer titanium disulfide

Ruixue Tian et al.

Summary: This study systematically investigates the impacts of heteroatom doping on the adsorption and diffusion capabilities of alkali metals in monolayer TiS2. The results show that doping can enhance the adsorption capability, particularly with P doping, and reduce the diffusion energy barriers when alkali metals approach the doping site. P doping exhibits the lowest overall diffusion energy barrier for each metal.

Activating transition metal dichalcogenide monolayers as efficient electrocatalysts for the oxygen reduction reaction via single atom doping

Shufang Tian et al.

Summary: Recent research has focused on the electrocatalytic applications of 2D transition-metal-dichalcogenides, with particular interest in MoS2. This study reveals the catalytic properties of sulfur-based IVB-BVII TMDs in various phase structures for the oxygen reduction reaction. By doping with transition metals or non-metals, certain TMDs show promise as efficient ORR electrocatalysts, comparable to Pt-based ones. The findings suggest a potential strategy for enhancing the ORR activity of TMDs through single atom doping.
