Microwave Optomechanically Induced Transparency and Absorption Between 250 and 450 mK

Sumit Kumar et al.

Summary: High-quality microwave amplifiers and notch-filters can be made using microwave optomechanical systems. These devices have large gain, high dynamic range, very low noise, and extremely narrowband filters. In this paper, previous measurements of these phenomena are reviewed, and our own extensive measurements in a larger parameter space are reported, showing excellent agreement with theoretical predictions.

Quantum backaction evading measurements of a silicon nitride membrane resonator

Yulong Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, a quantum backaction measurement was carried out on a large silicon nitride membrane oscillator with a diameter of 0.5 mm and a frequency of 707 kHz using a microwave cavity readout. The results show that quantum backaction noise can be avoided in the quadrature measurement of the motion of a large object.

A macroscopic object passively cooled into its quantum ground state of motion beyond single-mode cooling

D. Cattiaux et al.

Summary: Passive cooling allows devices to reach equilibrium with their environment without excess damping. The authors demonstrate passive cooling of a 15 μm drum-head device with MHz fundamental flexure to its quantum ground state. The quantum-to-classical crossover remains one of the most challenging questions in science.

Direct observation of deterministic macroscopic entanglement

Shlomi Kotler et al.

Summary: In this study, two mechanical drumheads with masses of 70 picograms were deterministically entangled using pulsed electromechanics. Quantum state tomography was performed through nearly quantum-limited measurements, allowing for the direct observation of entanglement. These entangled macroscopic systems are expected to be used in fundamental tests of quantum mechanics, enable sensing beyond the standard quantum limit, and function as long-lived nodes in future quantum networks.

Room temperature cavity electromechanics in the sideband-resolved regime

Anh Tuan Le et al.

Summary: We present a sideband-resolved cavity electromechanical system that operates at room temperature, characterized by two measurements that reveal different effects of the electromechanical coupling. This study opens up the field of cavity electromechanics for room temperature applications by demonstrating the dynamical backaction of the cavity field on the resonator.

Silicon-nitride nanosensors toward room temperature quantum optomechanics

Enrico Serra et al.

Summary: The article discusses the role of micro- and nanomechanical resonators in sensing and signal processing platforms, particularly focusing on their integration into advanced optomechanical setups. By comparing different SiN resonator implementations, it analyzes the impact of intrinsic dissipation on resonator performance and proposes an analytical approach to evaluate intrinsic loss.

High-Q Silicon Nitride Drum Resonators Strongly Coupled to Gates

Xin Zhou et al.

Summary: The study presents a silicon nitride (SiN) drum resonator covered with an aluminum thin film, enabling large capacitive coupling to a suspended top-gate. It maintains high mechanical properties with a high quality factor and demonstrates the ability to detect multiple mechanical modes at low temperature. Additionally, the drum resonator is coupled to a microwave cavity for optomechanical sideband pumping and mechanical parametric amplification.
