Effects of Fe addition on pyrolysis characteristics of lignin, cellulose and hemicellulose

Lichao Ge et al.

Summary: In this study, the pyrolyzed influence of Fe contents on lignin, cellulose and hemicellulose was investigated using thermogravimetric and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The results showed that the addition of Fe increases the yield of cellulose biochar, and the yield of lignin and hemicellulose biochar is also affected by Fe addition. The kinetic analysis revealed that Fe supplementation affects the activation energy of lignin, cellulose and hemicellulose differently. The release characteristics of the pyrolysis products were also influenced by Fe addition.

Enhancement of bio-oil quality over self-derived bio-char catalyst via microwave catalytic pyrolysis of peanut shell

Quan Bu et al.

Summary: This study explores the use of self-derived bio-char loaded with selective transition metals to improve the production of aromatic hydrocarbons in bio-oil from microwave pyrolysis of peanut shells. Experimental results show that loading 10% of Fe/Bio-char significantly increases the hydrocarbon and aromatic hydrocarbon content in the bio-oil. The optimal condition for maximum yield and selectivity is a pyrolysis temperature of 550°C and a catalyst/peanut shell ratio of 20%. This research has important implications for improving biomass utilization, reducing reaction costs, and recycling agricultural waste.

A comparative assessment of biofuel products from rice husk and oil palm empty fruit bunch obtained from conventional and microwave pyrolysis

Siti Abdul Halim et al.

Summary: This study compared the differences in products obtained from microwave pyrolysis (MP) and conventional pyrolysis (CP) in biomass pyrolysis. The results showed that MP increased the yield of bio-oil and biochar, but decreased the percentage of biogas yield. The bio-oil derived from MP had a higher content of monoaromatics and phenolic compounds, while the bio-oil derived from CP contained a significant amount of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. Meanwhile, the syngas produced from MP had a higher percentage compared to CP.

Biomass hydrogen donor assisted microwave pyrolysis of low-rank pulverized coal: Optimization, product upgrade and synergistic mechanism

Lei Wu et al.

Summary: Microwave co-pyrolysis of low-rank pulverized coal (PC) and wheat straw (WS) was investigated to optimize the conditions and maximize tar yield. Addition of WS significantly improved the microwave pyrolysis of PC, resulting in increased tar and pyrolysis gas yields. The composition of the coal tar was also altered, with a decrease in aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons and an increase in phenols and alcohols.

CO2 gasification of straw biomass and its correlation with the feedstock characteristics

Siqin Li et al.

Summary: The study found that straw biomass with higher cellulose and hemicellulose content, such as corn straw, wheat straw, and rice straw, exhibited higher pyrolysis reactivity. In the char gasification stage, the content of fixed carbon and catalytic ash components played a significant role in determining weight loss and reactivity, with corn straw, cotton straw, and soybean straw performing better in char gasification. Kinetics results showed that the homogeneous reaction model better described the pyrolysis stage, while the shrinking core model was more suitable for the char gasification stage in all straw biomass.
