Template-free synthesis of sodium trivanadate (Na0.94V3O8) nanobelts has been proposed by a sol gel route with subsequent calcination. The well-crystallized Na0.94V3O8 nanobelts exhibited high power rate and superior cycling stability as a cathode material for lithium ion battery. High reversible capacity of 300 mA h g(-1) under 0.3C (100 mA g(-1)) was obtained and nearly no capacity fading was found with the cell cycled under 20C (6 A g-1) after 300 cycles.
