Evaluation of Weld Joint Strength Reduction Factor due to Creep in Alloy 740H to P92 Dissimilar Metal Weld Joint

Young Wha Ma et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the weld joint strength reduction factor (WSRF) due to creep in alloy 740H-P92 dissimilar metal weld joint for advanced ultra-supercritical fossil power plants. Results showed that the creep rupture strength of the weldment was lower than that of the P92 parent metal after certain times, with increasing differences in creep strengths over time. The WSRF for 100,000 h creep life at different temperatures was determined through extrapolation based on creep rupture time analysis, with the creep life being predominantly determined by the heat affected zone (HAZ) characteristics on the P92 side.
