Structural origin of magnetic softening in a Fe-based amorphous alloy upon annealing

Xing Tong et al.

Summary: Distinctive soft magnetic properties were developed in Fe76Si9B10P5 amorphous ribbons through systematic design of annealing process. The atomic structural evolution in short range order and medium range order is responsible for the magnetic softness. Both local formation of separated and densely coordinated Fe-metalloid clusters and generation of a homogeneous exchangecoupling contribute to the excellent magnetic softness.

Heterostructured crystallization mechanism and its effect on enlarging the processing window of Fe-based nanocrystalline alloys

Tao Liu et al.

Summary: A novel strategy of annealing the partially crystallized precursor ribbons via a heterostructured crystallization process was proposed to enlarge the processing window of high saturation magnetization nanocrystalline soft-magnetic alloys. By studying the heterostructured evolution of alloy ribbons with different spinning rates, the gradient nucleation and grain refinement mechanisms were demonstrated. This strategy not only improves the magnetic properties and nanostructure of the alloys, but also allows for greater compositional adjustability and impurity tolerance.

Heating rate dependence of coercivity and microstructure of Fe-B-P-Cu nanocrystalline soft magnetic materials

Yohei Nomura et al.

Summary: The nanocrystalline structure and soft magnetic properties of melt-spun Fe-B-P-Cu ribbons are greatly influenced by the heating rates during crystallization of amorphous precursors. Higher heating rates lead to larger size and higher Cu concentration of the Cu clusters in both P-rich and B-rich ribbons. Solute partitioning behaviors between alpha-Fe and residual amorphous phase are consistent with the Fe-P-B ternary phase diagram, with P segregating at the amorphous/alpha-Fe interface during crystallization.

Enlarging heat-treatment processing windows of Fe-Si-B-P-Cu-M nanocrystalline alloys by doping transition metal elements

Chuntao Chang et al.

Summary: The addition of Ta and Nb elements can effectively improve the soft-magnetic properties of Fe-Si-B-P-Cu alloys, making the heat treatment range of the alloy wider. Nb and Ta doping is most beneficial for stabilizing and refining the nanocrystalline structure of the alloy, which has a significant impact on the heat treatment conditions of the alloy.

Nanocrystalline Fe83Si4B10P2Cu1 ribbons with improved soft magnetic properties and bendability prepared via rapid annealing of the amorphous precursor

Yang Meng et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated that nanocrystalline Fe83Si4B10P2Cu1 ribbons obtained through rapid annealing have higher crystallinity and finer alpha-Fe nanocrystallites compared to ribbons prepared through conventional annealing, leading to improved magnetic properties and bendability. Rapid annealing at 520 degrees C for 30 s successfully produced Fe83Si4B10P2Cu1 nanocrystalline ribbons with high saturation magnetization, low coercivity, and enhanced bendability suitable for electronic components with complex geometries.

Design of Fe-based nanocrystalline alloys with superior magnetization and manufacturability

Summary: A revolutionary nanostructure design concept was proposed in this study to improve the magnetic properties of Fe-based alloys by preforming dense nuclei and refining nano-structure via transient metalloid-rich interfaces. A novel alloy composition with superior magnetic properties was developed using only 4.6 wt.% light metalloids, showing great potential as a substitute for commercial bulk Si-steels in soft-magnetic applications.
