Regulating ferroelectric polarization and dielectric properties of BT-based lead-free ceramics

Jing Shi et al.

Summary: This study investigated the structural, dielectric, and ferroelectric properties of lead-free ceramics based on the ternary system of BaTiO3 (BT). It was observed that the dopant concentration influenced the structural evolution from tetragonal to pseudocubic phase. The dielectric response showed diffusive peaks and relaxor behavior, indicating a transition from ferroelectric to relaxor state. The ceramics exhibited slim polarization hysteresis loops and electrical inhomogeneities caused by excessive dopant addition, leading to degraded electric breakdown strength. The oxygen vacancy hopping mechanism was proposed to explain the diffuse dielectric response at high dopant concentrations.

Are lead-free relaxor ferroelectric materials the most promising candidates for energy storage capacitors?

A. R. Jayakrishnan et al.

Summary: Dielectric capacitors offer high-power density and ultrafast discharging times, making them potential candidates for pulsed power technologies. However, low energy density in different dielectric materials limits their real time applications. Relaxor ferroelectrics have emerged as the most promising solution for energy storage capacitors. This review discusses the latest developments on lead-free relaxor ferroelectrics and strategies to enhance their energy storage performance.

Effect of Chemical Inhomogeneity on the Dielectric and Impedance Behaviors of Bismuth Sodium Titanate Based Relaxors

Yujing Li et al.

Summary: Different levels of Nb2O5 substitution were used to prepare lead-free relaxors of 0.66(Bi0.5Na0.5)TiO3-0.06BaTiO(3)-0.28(Bi0.2Sr0.7)TiO3 (BS-xNb) in order to investigate the effect of chemical heterogeneity on dielectric and impedance behaviors. The addition of excess Nb2O5 leads to increased secondary phase and higher electronic conductivity. The introduction of Nb2O5 doping enhances disorder and facilitates the transition to the ergodic relaxor phase.
