Phase separation and mechanical behavior of AlCoCrFeNi-X (X = Cu, Mn, Ti) high entropy alloys processed via powder metallurgy

Min Chul Oh et al.

Summary: This study investigated the phase separation behavior and mechanical properties of AlCoCrFeNi-X (X = Cu, Mn, Ti) high-entropy alloys. The incorporation of suitable additive elements (X = Cu, Mn, Ti) can selectively tune the microstructural and mechanical properties of AlCoCrFeNi HEAs. The mechanical properties of AlCoCrFeNi-X (X = Mn, Ti) alloys were found to be superior to those of the AlCoCrFeNi-Cu alloy due to higher BCC fraction and the presence of a fine nanoscale BCC/B2 matrix coupled with high modulus and hard a-phases in AlCoCrFeNi-Mn alloy.

Summary: The effects of Nb content on microstructures and mechanical properties in Co-free CrFeNi2Nbx alloys were investigated. Increasing Nb content led to changes in microstructures and improved mechanical properties, with a reduction in ductility. The CrFeNi2Nb0.6 alloy achieved a high maximum fracture strength.

Local Ordering Tendency in Body-Centered Cubic (BCC) Multi-Principal Element Alloys

Summary: The study found that multi-principal element alloys may exhibit short-range chemical ordering, depending on the mixing properties of different element pairs. By using the Monte Carlo method and density-functional theory calculations, the evolution of short-range order in alloys can be accurately predicted, revealing its significant impact on the local structure, electronic, and elastic properties of the alloys.

Summary: Corrosion tests in oxygen-containing molten Pb at 600 degrees C indicated that Cu or Ti additions degrade the corrosion resistance of HEAs, while Nb addition showed promising corrosion behavior. After long exposure, all three alloys experienced phase transformations, resulting in the identification of new phases.

Effects of boron on microstructure and properties of microwave sintered FeCoNi1.5CuY0.2 high-entropy alloy

Li Guirong et al.

Summary: The mechanical properties of high-entropy alloys containing rare earth are significantly improved by adding boron element. The addition of boron affects phase transformation, microstructure, compressive mechanical properties, and magnetic properties of the alloy, with different boron ratios leading to different outcomes. Boron solutes into the FCC base phase, leading to lattice distortion and solid solution strengthening, while boride particles have a dispersion strengthening effect on the alloy.
