Oxygenic Enrichment in Hybrid Ruthenium Sulfide Nanoclusters for an Optimized Photothermal Effect

Houjuan Zhu et al.

Summary: A biomineralization-assisted bottom-up strategy was developed to synthesize oxygenic hybrid ruthenium sulfide nanoclusters (RuSx NCs) with optimized photothermal therapy (PTT) by regulating oxygen amounts and sulfur defects. With increasing molar ratios of Ru to S, RuSx NCs demonstrated higher photothermal conversion efficiency (PCE) compared to most small-sized inorganic photothermal nanoagents. High PCE and superior photostability of RuSx NCs allowed for effective and complete cancer cell ablation, showing potential for future biomedical applications.

Photoacoustic Imaging and Photothermal Therapy of Semiconducting Polymer Nanoparticles: Signal Amplification and Second Near-Infrared Construction

Xu Zhen et al.

Summary: The development of semiconducting polymer nanoparticles (SPNs) for photoacoustic imaging and photothermal therapy has shown promising results due to their clear structure-property relation and molecular structural tunability. Various strategies such as structure-property screening, fluorescence quenching, accelerated heat dissipation, and size-dependent heat dissipation have been discussed to amplify the PA brightness of SPNs for in vivo PA. Additionally, molecular approaches have been introduced to shift the absorption of SPNs for NIR-II PA imaging and PTT in order to improve tissue penetration depth for diagnosis and therapy.
