Decolourization of rhodamine B and methylene blue dyes in the presence of bismuth tungstates: a detailed investigation on the effect of grain size

Shomaila Khanam et al.

Summary: In this study, Bi2WO6 was prepared using solid-state reaction method and characterized to have orthorhombic symmetry. High-energy ball milling was employed to reduce the grain size and enhance catalytic activity for the degradation of RHB and MB. The degradation efficiency of Bi2WO6 was found to be size-dependent, with smaller catalyst size resulting in higher degradation rates for organic pollutants.

Photocatalytic ozonation in water treatment: Is there really a synergy between systems?

Manuel Figueredo et al.

Summary: Ozonation and photocatalytic oxidation show synergy in water treatment, with potential for photocatalytic ozonation application. pH, alkalinity, and water matrix composition can affect the performance of these systems, especially when dealing with organic pollutants. The study demonstrates the importance of considering water quality factors when applying photocatalytic ozonation for pollutant removal.

Improvement of Photocatalytic Activity of Bi2WO6 by Doping Ag and Y: A DFT Study

Tran Phan Thuy Linh et al.

Summary: In this study, density functional theory calculations were employed to investigate the electronic band structures and optical properties of Bi2WO6, Ag-doped Bi2WO6, and Y-doped Bi2WO6 semiconductors. The results suggest that doping with Ag and Y can facilitate the spatial separation of photo-induced electron-hole pairs, leading to enhanced photocatalytic performance. Additionally, the presence of an Ag impurity energy band in Ag-doped Bi2WO6 is expected to reduce the recombination rate of photogenerated carriers.

Effect of minimal pre-treatment on reverse osmosis using surface water as a source

E. R. Cornelissen et al.

Summary: Reverse osmosis is commonly used in drinking water supply for treatment of fresh water sources to produce high quality water. Strategies to control membrane fouling include low flux operation and improved hydraulic cleaning. Research found that a minimal pre-treated reverse osmosis system has lower total cost compared to ultrafiltration pre-treated reverse osmosis system and both systems have their own limitations.
