Summary: The synergetic effect of TiO2 quantum dots (TiO2 QDs) decorated Si nanocage composites leads to superior lithium-ion storage performance. Reversible charge capacity of 616.3 mAh/g was achieved over 500 cycles at 1.0 A/g, and Li storage capacities of 513.6 mAh/g were retained at 10.0 A/g after 150 cycles. The improved performance of Si-TiO2 can be attributed to the special Si nanocage for buffering volume expansion and the ultra-small TiO2 for shortening ion transfer pathway and modifying the interfacial of Si.

Summary: Crystalline gamma-Ga2O3@rGO core-shell nanostructures were synthesized in gram scale using a facile sonochemical strategy under ambient conditions. The structures consisted of uniform gamma-Ga2O3 nanospheres encapsulated by reduced graphene oxide (rGO) nanolayers, with their formation attributed to the opposite zeta potential between Ga2O3 and rGO. The as-fabricated gamma-Ga2O3@rGO nanostructures exhibited improved reversible capacity and longer lifetime in lithium-ion batteries compared to pristine gamma-Ga2O3, largely due to a conversion reaction and alloying mechanism, as well as the self-healing ability of the discharged product of liquid metal Ga. The rGO shell also acted as a robust conductive network, enhancing the conductivity and contributing to efficient Li storage behaviors. This work provides insights for mass production of advanced electrode materials for energy storage and conversion applications under mild conditions.

Summary: Due to the urgent demand for high-energy-density lithium-ion batteries (LIBs), silicon (Si) with an ultrahigh capacity has gained wide attention. However, the practical application of Si is hindered by the large volume changes during cycling. In this study, a three-dimensional network binder composed of polyacrylic acid (PAA) and lysine (Lys) was constructed. The PAA/Lys binder exhibited strong adhesion to Si particles through hydrogen bonds and the cross-linked structure prevented irreversible slipping of PAA chains. The Si electrode using the PAA/Lys binder showed good cycling stability and high capacity retention, demonstrating the potential of using sustainable Si sources and environmentally friendly binders.

Summary: The high chemical stability of silicon carbide (SiC) prevents unwanted side chemical reactions and enhances the cyclability performance of lithium-ion battery anodes. However, the high surface lithiation energy barrier and low electrical conductivity of SiC hinder its application. Surface modification of SiC through hydrogen incorporation is explored in this study. The results show that lithium (Li) adsorption on the surface of hydrogen-passivated SiC nanowires (H-SiCNWs) introduces new electronic states within the band gap, significantly improving their performance as anodic materials for Li-ion batteries.
