Significant enhancement in tensile strength and work hardening rate in CoCrFeMnNi by adding TiAl particles via selective laser melting

Xintian Wang et al.

Summary: By adding TiAl powder particles into CoCrFeMnNi HEA and processing with selective laser melting, the developed microstructure led to enhancements in 0.2% yield strength, ultimate tensile strength, and strain hardening rates. The presence of microstructural features such as L1(2) domains, intragranular precipitates, and grain boundary precipitates played a key role in improving the mechanical properties of the samples.

Ultra-high strength assisted by nano-precipitates in a heterostructural high-entropy alloy

J. L. Yuan et al.

Summary: An excellent strength-plasticity synergy is achieved in the nano-precipitation-strengthened partially re-crystallized Co40Cr20Ni30Mo2Al4Ti4 (at%) high-entropy alloy (HEA). The yield strength (YS) reaches as high as 2 GPa and the tensile strain remains at 16% at 77 K. The theoretical strengthening models at room and cryogenic temperatures are consistent with experimental results. This research provides fundamental guidance for the development of high-performance alloys.

Influence of addition of TiAl particles on microstructural and mechanical property development in a selectively laser melted stainless steel

Pengyue Sun et al.

Summary: The addition of TiAl particles in 316L stainless steel resulted in the formation of numerous nano-sized gamma-TiAl precipitates, leading to refined grain structure and significantly increased ultimate tensile strength. The TiAl particles acted as effective dislocation motion barriers, improving the material's 0.2% yield strength. However, un-melted TiAl particles also caused reduced ductility by acting as preferential crack initiation and propagation sites during deformation.

Ordering effects on deformation substructures and strain hardening behavior of a CrCoNi based medium entropy alloy

Jiashi Miao et al.

Summary: A CrCoNi based medium entropy alloy with small additions of Ti, Al and Nb (denoted as (CrCoNi)(93)Al4Ti2Nb) exhibits comparable tensile properties to equiatomic CrCoNi alloy. Spatially-localized long range ordering (LRO) L1(2) domains are found in this alloy, where deformation occurs by the slip of a/2 <110> dislocations and leading dislocations glide as pairs in slip bands due to the existence of LRO domains. Multipoles are formed through dislocation slip with opposite signs on adjacent {111} slip planes, serving as building blocks for subgrain structures consisting of fine slip bands.

Role of recrystallization and second phases on mechanical properties of (CoCrFeMnNi)95.2Al3.2Ti1.6 high entropy alloy

Jiyeon Kang et al.

Summary: The study focuses on microstructures and mechanical properties of high entropy alloy (CoCrFeMnNi)95.2Al3.2Ti1.6 after homogenization and cold-rolling, followed by annealing at various temperatures. The annealing process revealed the presence of different phases based on temperature, leading to changes in grain size, strength, and ductility. Fully recrystallized materials at 900°C exhibited lower grain size but higher ductility due to second phase particles, impacting the yield strength significantly.
