Heusler-Based Cylindrical Micro- and Nanowires

Miroslav Hennel et al.

Summary: Wire-shaped materials are an ideal form for rapid, cheap, and scalable production and application. This article reviews the most recent research on Heusler-based cylindrical micro- and nanowires, with a focus on spintronic, magnetocaloric, and shape memory applications. It shows how the composition of Heusler alloys can be adjusted to achieve materials with repeatable magnetic and mechanical properties. The article also discusses the additional effects of wire shape, such as a well-defined easy axis change, and the possibility of downsizing wire properties to the nanoscale range through electrodeposition. Finally, potential applications of shape memory or magnetocaloric actuators and the implementation of high spin polarization for spintronic devices are presented.

Nanoscale-Thick Ni-Based Half-Heusler Alloys with Structural Ordering-Dependent Ultralow Magnetic Damping: Implications for Spintronic Applications

Ruma Mandal et al.

Summary: In this study, a high-quality half-metallic epitaxial nano-scale thick NiMnSb alloy film grown on a Cr/Ag-buffered MgO (001) single crystalline substrate was reported. The highly ordered C1(b) structured nano-scale thick NiMnSb film deposited at 573 K exhibited ultralow Gilbert damping, high anisotropic field, and saturation magnetization. The analysis of theoretical and experimental data revealed a strong correlation between crystal ordering and magnetic parameters, as well as sample quality. The negative anisotropic magnetoresistance ratio demonstrated the robust bulk half-metallicity. This unique combination of highly ordered nano-scale half-metallic NiMnSb alloy with ultralow damping can be advantageous for spintronic device applications.

Elucidation of the Strong Effect of the Annealing and the Magnetic Field on the Magnetic Properties of Ni2-Based Heusler Microwires

Mohamed Salaheldeen et al.

Summary: The effect of annealing and applied magnetic field on the magneto-structural behavior of Ni2FeSi-based Heusler microwires was studied. The results show that annealing leads to the development of crystallization process and the transformation of phase into a monoclinic martensitic structure. The magnetic properties also change after annealing, with higher saturation magnetization and lower reduced remanence observed.

Mohamed Salaheldeen et al.

Summary: In this study, Co2FeSi Heusler alloy glass-covered microwires with metallic nucleus and glass-coated layer were successfully fabricated. XRD analysis revealed a mixed structure of crystalline and amorphous phases in the metallic nucleus. Magnetic measurements demonstrated well-defined magnetic anisotropy and soft magnetic behavior. Additionally, a high Curie temperature and potential for high-temperature spintronic applications were reported.

M. Salaheldeen et al.

Summary: In this study, Co2FeSi Heusler alloy glass-covered microwires were successfully fabricated and their magnetic properties were investigated. The annealing conditions were found to have a strong influence on the magnetic behavior of the samples. Anomalous magnetic behavior was observed in the annealed samples, and the structural properties were analyzed. These findings are important for the design of devices based on magnetization switching.

Unveiling the effect of annealing on magnetic properties of nanocrystalline half-metallic Heusler Co2FeSi alloy glass-coated microwires

M. Salaheldeen et al.

Summary: This article presents a new Co2FeSi glass-coated microwire with a nanocrystalline structure obtained using the Taylor-Ulitovsky technique. The annealing process significantly increased the size of the nanograins and resulted in the observation of perfect square hysteresis loops. The annealed samples exhibited dramatic magnetic behavior at low temperatures and showed critical temperature points where the magnetic behavior changed. The anomalous magnetic behavior can be attributed to the coexistence of ordered and disordered phases induced by annealing conditions. The presence of the glass coating influenced the magnetization behavior and mechanical properties of the Co2FeSi microwires.
