Summary: Supercapacitors have gained attention due to their ability to provide energy pulses in short periods. The separator, a crucial component of supercapacitors, prevents internal electronic short circuits and ensures their safety and performance. Existing cellulose-based separators have low mechanical strength or high self-discharge rates, while polyolefin-based separators lack thermal stability. Researchers have been developing advanced separators to enhance supercapacitor performance. This study explores the requirements for ideal separators, the effects of raw materials and preparation strategies, and proposes future directions for advanced separator design.

Summary: Efficient catalysts for hydrogen production via water electrolysis have been developed. In this study, carbon nanofiber catalysts loaded with CoMo clusters covered by a nitrogen-doped carbon network were fabricated. These 3D network catalysts exhibited excellent catalytic performance in the hydrogen evolution reaction, requiring a low overpotential of 148 mV to reach a high current density of 10 mA cm-2. The unique structural features of the catalysts, including Co-Mo clusters, nitrogen-doped carbon frameworks, conducting carbon nanofibers, and carbon nitride networks, contributed to their comparable catalytic performance to commercial Pt/C at high current densities. This work provides a promising approach to transition metal-based catalysts with improved stability and atom utilization efficiency.

Summary: As a typical two-dimensional layered material, MoS2 has attracted extensive attention due to its adjustable electronic structure, abundant reserves, and excellent chemical stability. This study synthesized g-C3N4/Fe3O4/MoS2 composite electrocatalysts by growing MoS2 nanosheets on Fe3O4 sites supported on g-C3N4 substrates. The results showed that Fe3O4 sites facilitated the dispersion of MoS2 nanosheets, leading to high exposure of catalyst active sites, redistribution of surface charge, and optimization of hydrogen adsorption kinetics and stability. Additionally, the electrocatalytic performance of MoS2 for hydrogen evolution reaction was improved.

Summary: Supercapacitors, a new type of energy storage device, have attracted widespread attention in the field of energy and the environment. Composites based on carbon material/MnO2 have become a hotspot in electrode materials for supercapacitors, and the introduction of a third material can further enhance the properties of the composites. This paper provides a review and analysis of binary and ternary composites of carbon material/MnO2 and their applications, highlighting the need for a superposition of different dimensions and an optimum capacitive balance index for excellent performance. The paper also predicts the future trend of biomass activated carbon/low-dimensional carbon material (1D,2D)/MnO2 and new technologies such as graft oxidation and 3D printing. Finally, the challenges and development trends of multi-composites based on carbon material/MnO2 are summarized and predicted.
