Magnesium-based complex hydride mixtures synthesized from stainless steel and magnesium hydride with subambient temperature hydrogen absorption capability

Magdalena Rzeszotarska et al.

Summary: The synthesis of a complex hydride Mg-2(Fe, Cr, Ni)H-x via reactive ball milling process of AISI 316 L stainless steel and magnesium hydride was presented. The results show that the reaction between magnesium hydride and 316 L steel proceeded faster than with pure iron, resulting in a material with a cubic K2PtCl6 structure. Additionally, the obtained samples had a hydrogen content of around 4 wt% and the synthesized sample was able to absorb 1% of hydrogen at -50 degrees c through the formation of magnesium hydride.

Effects of Ni-loading contents on dehydrogenation kinetics and reversibility of Mg2FeH6

Sophida Thiangviriya et al.

Summary: This study investigates the substitution of Ni atoms for Fe atoms in Mg2FeH6, analyzing the hydrogenation and dehydrogenation kinetics, reaction mechanisms, and effects of Ni-loading contents on material properties and reversibility. The crystal structure of a new Ni-substituted Mg2FeH6 phase is confirmed in this work. Overall, the study provides insights into improving the kinetics and reversibility of Mg2FeH6 for hydrogen storage applications.
