Phenolic C-glycoside synthesis using microbial systems

Joong-Hoon Ahn et al.

Summary: Plants produce various types of phenolic compounds, and the biological importance of phenolic C-glycosides has led to the exploration of their synthesis. Different classes of C-glycosyltransferases have been identified and classified based on the type of sugar acceptor. Recent progress in the development and application of these enzymes in microbial systems has enabled the synthesis of phenolic C-glycosides.

An efficient preparation and biocatalytic synthesis of novel C-glycosylflavonols kaempferol 8-C-glucoside and quercetin 8-C-glucoside through using resting cells and macroporous resins

Yangbao Wu et al.

Summary: This study successfully synthesized novel C-glycosylated flavonols by reconstructing uridine 5'-diphosphate (UDP)-glucose biosynthesis pathways and Escherichia coli hosts. The production of C-glycosylated flavonols was increased by adjusting the timing of flavonol addition and adding glycerol. Ultrasound-assisted adsorption/desorption and macroporous resins were used to prepare the C-glycosylated flavonols.

Production of flavonol and flavone 6-C-glucosides by bioconversion in Escherichia coli expressing a C-glucosyltransferase from wasabi (Eutrema japonicum)

Nasanjargal Dorjjugder et al.

Summary: The study successfully produced flavone and flavonol 6-C-glucosides using the Ec-WjGT1 system, with high conversion rates achieved for apigenin, kaempferol, and quercetin. Additionally, sequential feeding of substrates helped to avoid precipitation and improved efficiency of the bioconversion process.
