Geochemical, mineralogical and petrographical characteristics of the domanik formation from north samara region in the volga-ural basin, Russia: Implication for unconventional tight oil reservoir potential

Shadi A. Saeed et al.

Summary: This paper comprehensively analyzes the properties of Domanik organic-rich carbonate in Kuzminovsky oilfield, Volga-Ural Basin. The results show that the samples have high organic matter content, excellent oil generation potential, and low thermal maturity. The porosity characteristics are mainly controlled by minerals and organic matter. Based on the findings, the Domanik Formation has a high potential for commercial oil production.

STRATIGRAPHIC CORRELATION AND SOURCE ROCK CHARACTERISTICS OF THE BALUTI FORMATION FROM SELECTED WELLS IN THE ZAGROS FOLD BELT, KURDISTAN REGION, NORTHERN IRAQ

Ibrahim M. J. Mohialdeen et al.

Summary: The Upper Triassic Baluti Formation in the Kurdistan Region of northern Iraq has been identified and evaluated for its source rock potential based on log response in selected wells. The formation consists of thinly interbedded shales, carbonates and anhydrite, with low to moderate total organic carbon (TOC) content. However, the presence of solid bitumen and the relatively low T-max values suggest limited organic matter preservation and migration. Further analysis is needed to fully assess the formation's hydrocarbon potential.

An integrated geochemical analysis, basin modeling, and palynofacies analysis for characterizing mixed organic-rich carbonate and shale rocks in Mesopotamian Basin, Iraq: Insights for multisource rocks evaluation

Adnan Q. Mahdi et al.

Summary: This study presents a comprehensive analysis of the carbonate source rocks in the Ajeel oilfield in Iraq, including organic geochemical characteristics, palynofacies analysis, and basin modeling. The results show that these potential source rocks have good quality and have been the main source of petroleum in the Mesopotamian Basin.

Burial and Thermal History Modeling of the Paleozoic-Mesozoic Basement in the Northern Margin of the Western Outer Carpathians (Case Study from Pilzno-40 Well, Southern Poland)

Dariusz Botor

Summary: The research indicates that in the northern margin of the Western Outer Carpathians, the Paleozoic-Mesozoic basement has a complex thermal history, with main hydrocarbon generation occurring in the pre-Middle Jurassic period, and the Miocene thermal overprint not significantly changing the thermal maturity. The ultimate petroleum accumulations come from source rocks within the thrustbelt, and comprehensive mineralogical and geochemical studies are crucial for petroleum exploration.

Preliminary investigation of the hydrocarbon generation potential from the post-rift Abbas shale Formation (Pliocene) in the Tihamah Basin, south-eastern Yemeni Red Sea

Mohammed Hail Hakimi et al.

Summary: Geochemical analysis of Pliocene Abbas shales in the Tihamah Basin indicates a fair to relatively good petroleum generation potential, with Rock-Eval hydrogen index values suggesting the presence of gas- and oil-prone source rocks. However, the shales are still in a very early-mature stage and have not yet generated petroleum.
