Association between autoantibodies in systemic sclerosis and cancer in a national registry

Sabrina Hoa et al.

Summary: There is an association between cancer and specific autoantibodies in SSc patients, with increased cancer risk in patients positive for anti-topoisomerase I and anti-U1-RNP antibodies. However, synchronous cancer is rare in this cohort of Canadian SSc patients.

Standardized incidence ratios and risk factors for cancer in patients with systemic sclerosis: Data from the Spanish Scleroderma Registry (RESCLE)

Cristina Carbonell et al.

Summary: Spanish patients with SSc have an increased risk of cancer compared to the general population. Lung, breast, and hematological cancers are the most commonly observed types. Risk factors for cancer include older age at SSc onset, the presence of primary biliary cholangitis, and decreased forced vital capacity, while the presence of anticentromere antibodies reduces the risk of cancer.

Presence of anti-TIF-1γ, anti-Ro52, anti-SSA/Ro60 and anti-Su/Ago2 antibodies in breast cancer: a cross-sectional study

Monica Vazquez-Del Mercado et al.

Summary: The study found that about 14.47% of breast cancer patients showed autoantibodies associated with systemic autoimmune rheumatic diseases (SARD), with the most common specificities being anti-SSA/Ro60, anti-Ro52/TRIM21, and anti-Su/Ago2. Further research is needed to establish the biological significance of these SARD-associated autoantibodies in breast cancer.
