Long-term clinical impact of permanent pacemaker implantation in patients undergoing transcatheter aortic valve implantation: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Andrea Zito et al.

Summary: This study concludes that patients who require PPI after TAVI have a higher long-term risk of all-cause death and rehospitalization for heart failure compared to those who do not receive PPI.

Effect of Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation vs Surgical Aortic Valve Replacement on All-Cause Mortality in Patients With Aortic Stenosis A Randomized Clinical Trial

William D. Toff et al.

Summary: This study aimed to determine whether TAVI was noninferior to surgery in patients at moderately increased operative risk. The results showed that among patients aged 70 years or older with severe, symptomatic aortic stenosis and moderately increased operative risk, TAVI was noninferior to surgery with respect to all-cause mortality at 1 year.

Effect of pacemaker implantation after transcatheter aortic valve replacement on long- and mid-term mortality

Summary: The study found that post-procedure PPM implantation was not associated with increased long-term mortality in patients undergoing TAVR. The analysis also showed no significant difference in mortality based on pacing burden.

Pacing devices to treat bradycardia: current status and future perspectives

Mauro Biffi et al.

Summary: Cardiac stimulation has evolved to treat heart rhythm disorders and heart failure, aiming to correct the electrophysiologic causes of mechanical inefficiency in various heart diseases. New pacing modalities are emerging to achieve individualized physiologic settings, with technologies needing to evolve for more effective and widespread adoption.

Summary: This study found no difference in long-term survival between patients who did and did not undergo permanent pacemaker implantation after TAVR, as well as no significant differences in the risk of cardiovascular death, heart failure, or endocarditis between the two groups.

Aortic valve replacement vs. balloon-expandable and self-expandable transcatheter implantation: A network meta-analysis

Fabrizio D'Ascenzo et al.

Summary: Through a comparison of data from 11 randomized controlled trials, it was found that both balloon-expandable and self-expandable valves in TAVI provide comparable midterm survival to aortic valve replacement. Balloon-expandable valves were associated with a reduced risk of permanent pacemaker implantation and paravalvular leak, while self-expandable valves did not show significant differences in all-cause and cardiovascular mortality compared to balloon-expandable valves during the two-year follow-up period.

Summary: This study analyzed the incidence and predictors of PPI after TAVI, finding that age, right bundle branch block (RBBB), left bundle branch block (LBBB), self-expanding valve type, and valve implantation depth are the main independent predictors.
