Two-Dimensional V2O5 Nanosheets as an Advanced Cathode Material for Realizing Low-Cost Aqueous Aluminum-Ion Batteries

Puja De et al.

Summary: An interconnected sheet-like morphology of low-cost V2O5 is used as a cathode material for aluminum-ion batteries to improve their capacity, rate capability, and cycling stability. The V2O5-based cathode shows excellent performance, with an initial discharge capacity of around 140 mA h g-1 and a capacity retention of 96% after 1000 cycles. The fast intercalation and deintercalation of Al3+ within the stacked layers of V2O5 contribute to these high-performance characteristics, which have been previously ignored in aluminum-ion batteries.

Flexible, free-standing and dendrite-free iron metal anodes enabled by MXene frameworks for aqueous Fe metal dual-ion batteries

Yuchan Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, a new MXene/Fe heterostructure is designed as an anode for Fe metal batteries to suppress dendrite growth and improve plating/stripping kinetics of Fe. The Fe growth mechanism on MXene is investigated, and stable cycling life and superior rate capability are achieved when used as anode for Fe metal dual ion batteries. These findings provide an alternative approach for developing high performance Fe-based batteries.

Rechargeable Iron -Ion Battery Using a Pure Ionic Liquid Electrolyte

Yansong Zhao et al.

Summary: A rechargeable iron-ion battery has been developed using a pure ionic liquid electrolyte. The magnetic ionic liquid BmimFeCl(4) shows promising physical and electrochemical properties as an electrolyte for the battery. The iron-containing cathode materials and graphite anode are utilized. The Fe-ion battery with a pure IL electrolyte is not only unique but also safer than those with organic electrolytes, and it holds great potential for various applications.

Fe-Ion Bolted VOPO4•2H2O as an Aqueous Fe-Ion Battery Electrode

Yunkai Xu et al.

Summary: VOPO4 ·2H2O demonstrates a high specific capacity and stable cycling performance for hosting Fe2+ ions, while the capacity for hosting Zn2+ ions diminishes quickly. The unique mechanism of trapping Fe3+ ions in the electrode structure prevents dissolution into the electrolyte during charge and discharge cycles, offering a new strategy to stabilize layered electrode materials using a redox-active ion charge carrier.

Enhanced chemical trapping and catalytic conversion of polysulfides by diatomite/MXene hybrid interlayer for stable Li-S batteries

Zehui Fan et al.

Summary: The study presents a diatomite/MXene hybrid material as a bifunctional interlayer for lithium-sulfur batteries, which hinders the shuttling of lithium polysulfides and boosts the adsorption/conversion of LiPSs. The diatomite effectively traps LiPSs and prevents MXene aggregation, leading to improved cycling stability.
