Innovative method to reduce frost formation in liquid-to-air membrane energy exchangers (LAMEE) based on 3D CFD simulation

Mohammad Alipour Shotlou et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel model based on 3D computational fluid dynamics is developed to predict frost formation in a liquid-to-air membrane energy exchanger (LAMEE). The model is robust and can be used to analyze different methods to combat frost. Results show that the presence of the membrane reduces frost mass by approximately 60% due to mass transfer. The proposed model also suggests an innovative method using a three-fluid LAMEE to reduce frost formation by controlling solution temperature.
