Pore-scale simulation of nanoparticle transport and deposition in a microchannel using a Lagrangian approach

Milad Ramezanpour et al.

Summary: The transport and deposition of nanoparticles in a microchannel are investigated numerically. The deposition ratio of nanoparticles is influenced by nanoparticle diameter, fluid velocity, temperature, surface potentials, and double-layer thickness. Brownian motion dominates the behavior, and increasing temperature and decreasing nanoparticle diameter enhance the deposition. The electrostatic double-layer force also affects the deposition, and an increase in surface potential decreases the deposition ratio.

Pore-scale direct numerical simulation of fluid dynamics, conduction and convection heat transfer in open-cell Voronoi porous foams

Emad Sepehri et al.

Summary: This study presents a pore-scale direct numerical simulation of flow and convection-conduction heat transfer in open-cell metal foams. The effects of foams' porosity, solid material, and Reynolds number on flow characteristics and heat transfer are investigated. Results show that decreasing porosity increases flow complexity and subsequent increments in heat transfer and pressure drop. Conductive heat transfer through the foam plays a vital role in the total heat transfer rate. These pore-scale outcomes can be used in macro-scale thermo-fluid models for more accurate simulations with less computational costs.
