Whole body coordination patterning in volleyball spikes under various task constraints: exploratory cluster analysis based on self-organising maps

Javad Sarvestan et al.

Summary: The performance of volleyball spikes in elite players can be influenced by task and environment-related constraints. This study examined the impact of awareness of the presence or absence of a defensive block by opponents on the performance and coordination pattern of spikes in elite volleyball attackers. The findings showed that providing attackers with information about opponents' condition or performance shifted their focus and consequently led to a deterioration in spike performance.

When and how do elite soccer players sprint in match play? A longitudinal study in a professional soccer league

Jose M. Oliva-Lozano et al.

Summary: The study aimed to examine the timing of maximum speed actions in elite soccer matches and analyze the influence of playing position and contextual variables. The results showed that the first 15 minutes of each match half had the highest frequency of maximum speed actions, regardless of playing position. However, playing position had a significant effect on the role of the action and the field area in which the sprint occurred. Contextual variables did not significantly affect ACC(MAX), DECMAX or Vo, but had a significant effect on SPD and V-MAX.

How does curve sprint evolve across different age categories in soccer players?

Alberto Filter-Ruger et al.

Summary: Research has shown that age can affect performance in curve sprints among soccer players, and the relationship between curve sprints and linear sprints weakens with age. Therefore, it is important to assess and train curve sprints in different age groups of players, particularly focusing on improving weak side curve sprints.

Effect of ball inclusion on jump performance in soccer players: a biomechanical approach

Alberto Filter et al.

Summary: This study aimed to examine the biomechanical differences between run-up vertical jump and heading test in soccer players. Results showed that players exhibited higher horizontal velocity, better vertical jump performance, and larger body angle rotation during the heading test compared to the run-up vertical jump.

Decomposing the variability of match physical performance in professional soccer: Implications for monitoring individuals

Jose M. Oliva-Lozano et al.

Summary: The study aimed to establish sources of variability in match physical performance of professional soccer players and provide a method for monitoring individual between-match changes. Data analysis revealed that variability was higher for certain metrics, and significant changes were identified for total distance, total accelerations, and maximum running velocity.

Multidirectional sprints in soccer: are there connections between linear, curved, and change-of-direction speed performances?

Tomas T. Freitas et al.

Summary: The study found significant relationships between linear sprint and curve sprint, as well as between curve sprint ability and change of direction performance. Vertical jump performance was significantly correlated with both linear and curve sprint velocities, but not with change of direction velocity. Training strategies aimed at improving vertical jumping capacity may enhance linear and curve sprint abilities, while increases in change of direction velocity may also improve curve sprint performance.

Curve Sprint in Elite Female Soccer Players: Relationship with Linear Sprint and Jump Performance

Ronaldo Kobal et al.

Summary: The study found high associations between linear sprint and curve sprint velocities in professional female soccer players. Faster linear and curve sprinters had greater change of direction deficits. Jumping ability was correlated with linear and curve sprint performance, but not with change of direction performance.

Summary: The study found that total distance covered in matches was higher in La Liga than in the Segunda Division, with physical demands decreasing more rapidly in La Liga. Total distance decreased while high-intensity distance and sprint numbers increased, with a clearer trend observed in La Liga.
