Summary: Solar energy is crucial for achieving carbon neutrality, but its inconsistent and variable nature requires addressing the problem of steady and efficient operation. This research proposes a multifunctional heat pump called DX-S/AS-HP, which combines a direct expansion solar heat pump with an air source heat pump. The system can operate in three modes and has higher performance than an ASHP in similar working conditions. The results show that the COP decreases with increasing working temperature and has little effect on thermal collecting efficiency.

Summary: A new thermal management method is proposed in this paper by combining radiative sky cooler (RSC) with air cooling for thermoelectric cooler (TEC), which can enhance cooling capacity and reduce power consumption. The system utilizes radiative sky passive cooling and supplemented by air cooling for heat dissipation. A steady-state model is used to analyze system performance considering various parameters. The results show that the system significantly improves cooling capacity and minimizes heat attenuation at high ambient temperature compared to standalone air cooling. By utilizing RSC, complete passive cooling can be achieved with low TEC input power. The optimal RSC area and air cooling intensity depend on TEC cold and hot side temperatures.

Summary: Currently, the transport refrigeration sector is being driven towards more sustainable and efficient refrigeration systems that use natural working fluids instead of synthetic ones. Due to the variety of transport methods, challenging conditions, and safety requirements, as well as the fact that refrigeration systems are not the major users of refrigerants, the research and development efforts in mobile refrigeration have not been as significant as those in stationary refrigeration and air conditioning. However, it is now urgent to find sustainable solutions for the sector. Transport refrigeration can learn from experiences in other sectors and quickly achieve sustainable solutions. There are already many efficient natural working fluids-based systems in the market, some in development with international support, and others awaiting regulatory provisions, especially regarding flammable refrigerants. Innovations in refrigeration systems need to keep up with the revolution in the transport sector towards hybrid and electric vehicles.

Summary: A dye-sensitized solar cell is used to drive an annular thermoelectric cooler in order to solve performance issues caused by geometric mismatch. The mathematical formula of performance parameters for the hybrid system is derived, taking into account irreversible losses between the cell and the cooler. The effects of various factors on the cooling capacity and coefficient of performance are theoretically analyzed. The findings suggest that the hybrid system has a maximum cooling capacity of 68.75 W/m2 and a coefficient of performance of 0.071. Additionally, the positive Thomson effect has a beneficial influence on the thermoelectric cooling system. Overall, this work provides insights into solar-driven annular thermoelectric coolers for round shaped cooling spaces.

Summary: The concept of PV direct-driven refrigeration system is proposed to reduce cost. System control method impacts performance. Dynamic model of PV direct-driven refrigeration system is validated. PV-compressor coupling model is included in the model, showing relationship among solar irradiance, compressor load, and speed. Comparison of MPPT and CSP control methods shows MPPT is more efficient. Drop in solar irradiance decreases daily operation time and cooling capacity in both modes. MPPT method is more adaptive to temperature variations.
