Information sharing and carbon reduction strategies with extreme weather in the platform economy

Summary: This study explores the significant impacts of extreme weather, cap-and-trade policy, and demand information asymmetry on the operation strategies of firms and e-commerce platforms. Four theoretical models are developed to provide insights into optimal pricing, carbon reduction, and demand information sharing strategies. The main findings suggest that platforms should share demand information with firms when there is low actual demand potential, while the sharing strategies are influenced by carbon-trade price and the difference between high and low actual demand potential when the demand potential is high. Extreme weather has a complex impact on the optimal demand information sharing strategy and in some cases, non-disclosure of information benefits the environment. The results hold true even when considering extreme weather causing a rise in product carbon emission and firms selling differentiated products. The study also finds that platforms' choice to share information is beneficial to firms in the absence of extreme weather, but this may not be the case in extreme weather scenarios.

The optimal remanufacturing strategy, returned quality choice and independent remanufacturers' advantage for tackling extreme weather

Summary: As global warming continues to lead to more frequent extreme weather events, it is crucial for industries to adopt eco-friendly production methods, such as remanufacturing, to reduce carbon emissions. Many original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) choose to authorize remanufacturing to independent remanufacturers (IRs) due to patent disputes and lack of experience. This study explores the strategic choices and average returned quality in authorized remanufacturing, comparing in-house and authorized options, as well as different supply chain leadership structures (OEM-Stackelberg vs. IR-Stackelberg). The findings indicate that the quality advantage of IRs plays a significant role in the strategic choice, and the optimal remanufacturing strategy does not always result in the highest average quality, especially with a moderate quality advantage. Additionally, the study analyzes the impact of the optimal remanufacturing strategy on the environment in terms of non-productive and productive perspectives, suggesting that triple optimizations can be achieved to address extreme weather conditions when channel costs are low, new product costs are high, and there is a high quality advantage.

Modeling and evaluating economic and ecological operation efficiency of smart city pilots
