Karine Cappuccio de Castro et al.

Summary: This paper reviews the literature on the use of Pluronic (R) triblock copolymers for drug encapsulation in the past 10 years. It focuses on the progress of drug delivery systems (e.g. micelles, liposomes, micro/nanoemulsions, hydrogels and nanogels, polymersomes and niosomes) and discusses the benefits of Pluronic (R) triblock copolymers as biological response modifiers and pharmaceutical additives, adjuvants, and stabilizers. The paper also highlights the advantages and limitations of developing site-specific targeting approaches based on Pluronic-based nanostructures in cancer treatment, as well as innovative examples for improving tumor cytotoxicity while reducing side effects.

Extraordinary high preservation of the dispersion state of Au nanoparticles during freeze-thawing and freeze-drying with gum arabic

Miki Kadowaki et al.

Summary: This study found that gum arabic is an ideal substance to prevent aggregation of Au nanoparticles during freeze-thawing and freeze-drying at low concentrations. Surface enhanced infrared spectroscopic analysis showed that gum arabic molecules were concentrated in the unfrozen liquid on the Au coating in the frozen state, while carboxylic groups in gum arabic molecules became closer to the Au surface in the freeze-dried state. Due to its high thickening property, gum arabic plays an important role in minimizing the aggregation of AuNPs during freeze-thawing, and the freeze-dried gum arabic forms a rigid amorphous matrix with an affinity for the Au surface, resulting in the inhibition of aggregation.

Development of a Thermosensitive In-Situ Gel Formulations of Vancomycin Hydrochloride: Design, Preparation, In Vitro and In Vivo Evaluation

Luyu Bai et al.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to develop a thermosensitive in situ gel delivery system for ocular administration of vancomycin. The gel maintained a flowing liquid state under non-physiological conditions for easy administration, and transformed into a semi-solid state under physiological conditions to prolong its retention time in the eye. Pharmacokinetic analyses showed that the vancomycin thermosensitive in situ gel had higher peak concentration, area under the curve, and bioavailability compared to vancomycin eye drops.
