Influence of sea salt on the interfacial adhesion of bitumen-aggregate systems by molecular dynamics simulation

Zhengwu Long et al.

Summary: This research investigates the influence of sea salt on the adhesion properties of bitumen-aggregate systems using molecular dynamics simulations. The results show that the presence of seawater facilitates the migration of bitumen components and weakens the agglomeration of asphaltene, leading to the gradual damage of the colloidal structure of bitumen in the interfacial zone. Meng Wu et al.

Summary: This paper explores the interface behavior between emulsified asphalt and aggregate/reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) using molecular dynamic simulation. The study compares the adhesive condition of the asphalt-aggregate interface under different factors such as emulsifier content, moisture, and temperature. Changes of components and rheological properties of bitumen under dynamic thermal aging

Jianan Liu et al.

Summary: With the increase of aging cycles, the content of saturates and aromatics components in bitumen decreases, and the content of asphaltenes increases obviously under the higher temperature range for aging cycles. The aged bitumen gradually hardens and becomes brittle, especially under the dynamic thermal of the peak temperature of 200 degrees C, the deterioration of bitumen performance after 20 cycles exceeds the impact of TFOT for 15 h. Additionally, for bitumen, dynamic thermal aging is also a thermal oxygen aging behavior, and the roughness and altitude of the bee structure decrease. Overall, this work provides some new ideas for the aging behavior of bitumen under dynamic thermal changes.

Summary: This study investigated the mechanisms of interfacial enhancement among four base asphalt components, SBS, and CNTs through molecular dynamics simulation. The results showed that the addition of CNTs increased the binding energy of SBS and aromatics, decreased the diffusion coefficient of SBS and asphaltenes, and promoted the ability of SBS to swell. Microscopic observations confirmed the improvement in the interphase of SBSMA by the additional reinforcement, swelling, and diffusion provided by CNTs. Additionally, the rutting experiment validated the findings from the molecular dynamics simulations.
