Sex difference in lipid levels in first-diagnosed drug-naive depression patients: A case-control and 12-weeks follow-up study

Summary: Depressed patients, especially females, have a higher prevalence of dyslipidemia. Female patients with first-diagnosed, drug-naive depression showed lower atherogenic indices compared to male patients, but exhibited detrimental changes in serum lipids after 3 months of antidepressants therapy. Significant correlations were found between changes in depression inventory scores and serum lipids in depressed patients, suggesting a possible relationship between depression and dyslipidemia.
