Numerical investigation of droplet evaporation in high-pressure dual-fuel conditions using a tabulated real-fluid model

Hesham Gaballa et al.

Summary: This study proposes a real-fluid model for two-phase flow in dual-fuel internal combustion engines, aiming to investigate the evaporation and mixing processes of renewable fuels. The model is applied to analyze the evaporation of n-dodecane in a mixed ambient, showing that increasing methanol concentration reduces the droplet lifetime. Thermodynamic analysis reveals different thermodynamic paths for the droplet under varying methanol concentrations.

Exploring the interaction between phase separation and turbulent fluid dynamics in multi-species supercritical jets using a tabulated real-fluid model

Sajad Jafari et al.

Summary: This paper focuses on the analysis of the coupling between the hydrodynamics and thermodynamics of multi-species supercritical jets. Various phase transition phenomena are studied, and a tabulated multi-component real fluid model is proposed for simulation. Numerical results show good agreement with experimental data and previous studies. The relevance of different turbulence models is also examined, indicating the importance of the LES Sigma model in these complex two-phase flows.

Summary: This study investigates the inconsistencies caused by simplified filtered equation of state (EOS) in simulating turbulent mixing and combustion at supercritical pressures. Novel subgrid modeling approaches are proposed and evaluated to address these issues, providing a more accurate representation of the filtered EOS.

Temporal atomization of a transcritical liquid n-decane jet into oxygen

Jordi Poblador-Ibanez et al.

Summary: The injection of liquid fuel at supercritical pressures affects combustion process significantly. However, this topic has been overlooked in research. The study reveals the existence of a transcritical domain in the early stage of liquid fuel injection, which has different interface characteristics than conventional liquid fuel. These findings have important theoretical and practical implications for combustion engineering and fuel injection technology.

Implementation of a probabilistic surface density volume of fluid approach for spray atomisation

G. Tretola et al.

Summary: Eulerian Stochastic methods have been successfully applied to reactive flows and spray atomisation within the context of Large Eddy Simulation. The implementation of these methods involves solving Stochastic Partial Differential Equations and addressing numerical diffusion and integration challenges. By using algebraic compression methods, the numerical diffusion and effects of stochastic source term implementation can be minimized.

A hybrid Eulerian-Eulerian/Eulerian-Lagrangian method for dense-to-dilute dispersed phase flows

Achyut Panchal et al.

Summary: A hybrid EE-EL formulation is developed in this work for accurate and efficient computational modeling involving a transition between dense and dilute dispersed phase regimes. A smooth and dynamic transition criterion and conversion algorithm enable smooth transition between the two representations of the dispersed phase. The method's ability to dynamically transition from EE to EL and vice versa is evaluated in numerical tests and simulations.
