Application of a Reflectance Confocal Microscopy Imaging Analysis Score for the Evaluation of Non-Melanogenic Changes in Male Photoaged Skin

Victor Hugo Infante et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the morphological and structural changes in photoaged skin using skin imaging analysis and investigate the correlation between age and sunscreen use behavior. The findings showed that habits were more important than age, as men with photoprotection habits had better skin characteristics regardless of age.

In Vivo Reflectance Microscopy of Meissner Corpuscles and Bedside Measures of Large Fiber Sensory Function A Normative Data Cohort

Peter D. Creigh et al.

Summary: This study establishes normal cutoff values for Meissner corpuscle densities adjusted for age, sex, and body dimensions. Increasing age leads to decreased sensitivity of touch-pressure and vibration thresholds. Sensitivity is higher in the hand compared to the leg or foot. Body dimensions and sex also affect touch-pressure thresholds and MC densities. These results are important for the detection and monitoring of peripheral sensory nerve disorders.

Involvement of Cutaneous Sensory Corpuscles in Non-Painful and Painful Diabetic Neuropathy

Yolanda Garcia-Mesa et al.

Summary: The study found a significant decrease in the number of cutaneous mechanoreceptors in diabetic patients with distal diabetic sensorimotor polyneuropathy, especially in those experiencing pain, leading to impaired mechanosensitivity system which may partly explain the progression of the disease. Increased severity of the disease may be associated with the development of painful neuropathic symptoms, but the exact mechanism linking the absence of cutaneous mechanoreceptors to pain remains unclear.
