The effect of mindfulness-based interventions on immunity-related biomarkers: a comprehensive meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials

Thomas J. Dunn et al.

Summary: This meta-analysis found that mindfulness-based interventions may improve immune function and impact somatic disorders by reducing C-reactive protein and interleukin-6, and increasing CD4+ cells, telomere length, and telomerase activity.

Self-Reported Mindfulness Accounts for the Effects of Mindfulness Interventions and Nonmindfulness Controls on Self-Reported Mental Health: A Preregistered Systematic Review and Three-Level Meta-Analysis of 146 Randomized Controlled Trials

Ulrich S. Tran et al.

Summary: The results of this meta-analysis suggest that mindfulness interventions can have positive effects on mental health. However, the exact mechanisms through which these interventions work are still unclear. The study found that self-reported mindfulness may play a role in mediating the association between mindfulness interventions and changes in self-reported mental health.

The Empirical Status of Mindfulness-Based Interventions: A Systematic Review of 44 Meta-Analyses of Randomized Controlled Trials

Simon B. Goldberg et al.

Summary: Based on meta-analyses of randomized controlled trials, mindfulness-based interventions (MBIs) showed superiority over passive controls across most conditions, but effects were smaller and less statistically significant compared to active controls. MBIs were similar or superior to specific active controls and evidence-based treatments. Results were generally robust to publication bias, but reporting of adverse effects was inconsistent.

Care-as-usual control groups across different settings in randomized trials on psychotherapy for adult depression: a meta-analysis

Pim Cuijpers et al.

Summary: The study showed that there were no significant differences in effects between major categories of Care-as-usual (CAU) and psychotherapy in randomized trials, but significant differences in psychotherapy effects were found in specific countries, with larger effects in non-Western countries compared to Western countries.

Role of interleukin 8 in depression and other psychiatric disorders

Shih-Jen Tsai

Summary: Low grade neuroinflammation, particularly involving interleukin-8 (IL-8), has been suggested as an underlying mechanism for various psychiatric diseases and cognitive disorders. Elevated peripheral levels of IL-8 have been reported in conditions such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, obstructive sleep apnea, and autism spectrum disorder. However, the exact role of IL-8 in major depression remains inconsistent in the literature.

The effect of a mindfulness-based stress intervention on neurobiological and symptom measures in adolescents with early life stress: a randomized feasibility study

Zsofia P. Cohen et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated the feasibility of conducting group-based MBSR-T intervention for adolescents with ELS, with some evidence of efficacy on a symptom level and potential subtle changes on a biological level. Future larger studies are needed to determine the efficacy of group-based mindfulness interventions in this population.

A brief mindfulness-based intervention (bMBI) to reduce teacher stress and burnout

Stephen G. Taylor et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the efficacy of a brief mindfulness-based intervention in reducing teachers' self-reported stress, burnout, and depression, while also protecting against deleterious impacts to physiological functioning. The findings suggest strategies for reducing intervention dosages to improve effectiveness and cost-effectiveness in future mindfulness-based interventions.
