Polycaprolactone/Chitosan Composite Nanofiber Membrane as a Preferred Scaffold for the Culture of Mesothelial Cells and the Repair of Damaged Mesothelium

Hao-Hsi Kao et al.

Summary: This study aims to investigate the effect of chitosan (CS) on the cellular response of mesothelial cells cultured in a polycaprolactone (PCL) and PCL/CS blend nanofiber scaffold. The results show that the incorporation of CS improves scaffold hydrophilicity, enhances cell attachment, and better maintains the mesothelial phenotype. In vivo experiments demonstrate that the cell/scaffold construct containing allograft mesothelial cells can be used for mesothelium reconstruction.
