Ant Lasius niger joining one-way trails go against the flow

Summary: This study examines how individual decision-making in ants is influenced by the use of pheromones and the presence of other ants. The experiments show that ants tend to move in the opposite direction of a one-way flow system when entering it at a right angle. Artificial ant foragers also perform better when adopting a reverse run strategy instead of moving in the same direction as their nestmates.

Biogenic amines mediate learning success in appetitive odor conditioning in honeybees

Summary: This study investigated the role of biogenic amines in regulating the olfactory learning behavior of bees and found that the levels of dopamine (DA) and serotonin (5-HT) were directly correlated with learning success. These findings suggest that dopamine and serotonin may act together to define optimal motivational or attentional levels, improve learning success, and indicate that the dopamine blocker flupenthixol has a modulatory influence on the olfactory learning performance of bees.

Iron-sulfur complex assembly: Potential players of magnetic induction in plants

Summary: Iron-sulfur (Fe-S) clusters play a crucial role in biological reactions and their assembly involves complex protein-protein interactions in mitochondria, cytosol, and nucleus. ISCA scaffold proteins are essential for Fe-S cluster biosynthesis and metabolism. Recent studies suggest that a mechanism similar to pigeon magnetoperception might exist in plants, with ISCA proteins potentially playing a role in plant magnetic induction. Further research is needed to uncover the molecular mechanisms of MagR/Cry mediated magnetic induction and the possible coupling between light and magnetic induction in plants.

These results suggest that ERANTHIS may mitigate water stress effects on tomato plants.
