Schiff bases, as a category of organic inhibitors, have shown efficient protection in corrosive environments. This review focuses on the corrosion inhibitory performance of different Schiff bases for mild steel in acidic media, highlighting the effects of different reagents, environmental considerations, and structural issues on the protecting efficiency and applicability of Schiff bases. Therefore, the discussed influential factors can provide approaches to design and apply more effective Schiff bases in the corrosion field, especially alternatives under ecological guidelines and high inhibition efficiency.

The inhibition tendencies of novel hydrazide derivatives on the corrosion behavior of mild steel in hydrochloric acid solution

Summary: In this study, three different hydrazide derivatives were synthesized and evaluated for their corrosion inhibition performance on mild steel in hydrochloric acid medium. The results showed that the polyhydrazide derivative exhibited the highest inhibition efficiency, forming a protective layer on the steel surface. The surface morphology of the steel electrode was improved after immersion in the acid solution, with adsorption of the inhibitor molecules playing a key role in repairing flawed regions and healing cracks.

Imidazolate of 1-butyl-3-ethyl imidazole as corrosion inhibitor on API 5L X52 steel in NaCl saturated with CO2

Summary: In this study, the corrosion inhibition effect of the imidazolate of 1-butyl-3-ethyl imidazole was investigated on API 5L-X52 steel in a NaCl solution saturated with 3% CO2. Thermodynamic analysis and experimental verification confirmed the inhibiting effect of the ionic liquid on the metal surface. Density functional theory calculations provided insights into the adsorption mechanism and stability of the inhibitor. Understanding of benzimidazole based ionic liquid as an efficient corrosion inhibitor for carbon steel: Experimental and theoretical studies
